Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Vics Thrown Out of Conf North
« on: June 09, 2009, 10:04:53 AM »
I wonder if the Conf was trying to do Vics a favour by letting them know early that they are about to be canned at the AGM.This would then let them plan for next season properley and also help them in the decision making process regarding how best to service the debt......of course we now know that the FA overturned the Conferences decision in the usual random way they operate.

Having escaped one rule breach or non breach (as the case may be) is it still not the case that Vics must have either agreed a CVA before the AGM or paid creditors in full ?

I do not want Vics to go under, but I do think they should be playing at a level that matches their debt and that is not in the Conference competitions

No problem.
Can't wait for the spend spend spend........."we have got to overcome the 10 point deduction and get back into the Conf National asap whatever the cost. Sod the bills it's party time" statement from the rob-dogs down the A56.

For me the FA are sending out the wrong message to teams run as poorly as this one is. I for one hope that some form of action can still be taken, not because it's Vics, but because it's WRONG

Shambolic really.

Not looking like one of Elam's best career moves.

We should try and get Elam back, we played our best footy at the start of the season when he was there. We never reached the heights of that away win at Rushden that was on TV. Elam's pull-back to Col. He was patchy but had that bit of class which we missed when he went.

Away win at Rushden...........pretty sure this was a draw

Doubt GH would have Elam back...........he told lies in order to secure a release (I think) from his contract only to re-appear down the A56.

Densmore staying is great news.

I should have never doubted his loyalty, especially when he won the raffle at the second 'meet the new recruits' night and chose himself an Altrincham FC car pendant (when much better prizes were still available)

Just needs to avoid being sent off next season; although I think we will have to accept a least a suspension for 5 bookings and then get him to 'stick' when he reaches his ninth !

joke he's that low down the table, but glad to see him on it none the less.

I agree to some extent, but I suppose if you look at it another way, then maybe the paper or it's readers (whoever was the 'judge') is not that far off.

Altrincham were the 15th best team and and if all players were exactly equal, then we have the 15th best full backs, 15th best midfield etc.
Yes, the logic is a bit daft, but it is still a reasonable indicator. Our main striker is rated much higher than 15th as his goal tallies show, but there may be some players in the squad that would not make a top 24 in their position.
There are also some other very good keepers in the league and to be the 17th best non-league goalkeeper in England is still something to be proud of

I too was invited to contribute to Deano's War Chest..........to get us out of this damm league.....I bought my match tickets on-line

What actually surprised me was that the season ticket prices were quite reasonable considering they are a 'big' ex-league club. They offered a staggered discount i.e full price in Aug, some money off in July, more in June and even more again in May.

I am sold, I will buy one tomorrow  ::)

Already got mine.........the thought of watching football in another country combined with the ability to watch a squad of 44 players, was too much to resist.

Fancy sending season ticket adverts to 200 Alty fans !!! ;D

Just reading his autobiography and there are few good Alty references in the book.

Psycho started at Wealdstone aged 17 and mentions playing one of his first games at Moss Lane...he say "you had to learn to look after yourself at places like Altrincham where it was very rough"......I reckon the year would be circa 1979..........he does mention that Alex Stepney was in goal

He later talks of an England trial at Nuneaton where he bemoans not getting picked......he says " mainly because Altrincham had a left back called John Davidson, who quite frankly was better than me"

To his credit, when running over to take a throw-in at Moss Lane, this guy was actually quite amused when he heard Hughesy shout "Oi Bernard f****n Bresslaw" at him as he was collecting the ball from the advertising hoardings

Sorry to say this, but it is not best they fold and start again for the sake of the supporters, but best they fold and start again (Cheshire League) for the sake of all local businesses and people of this country who have no choice but to pay their taxes (PAYE & NI) each week.

Complete scamsters...........this 'white-knight' of man took over a club, but instead of steadying the ship with a reasonable business plan, deliberately chose to increase the debt further (players on contracts, players in hotels etc).
The contempt he showed for Telford (FA Cup cheque in the post...honest) says it all for me.

Gate of well over 2,000,for a midweek game, and no one from fisher, trophy semi final tickets went on sale that evening, which of course help with the crowd, they were being sold from the snack bar thats now flattened underneath the new part of the bar.

Hughesy,

I've just looked it up...

There were 2,250 at Moss Lane that evening.

Fisher's away support in those days used to consist solely of some barrow boy with a Ray Winstone accent who used to sit in the main stand at Moss Lane and yell "Caaaaaamm on the Fish!" at regular intervals.

It might have actually been Ray Winstone............back then he was no superstar Hollywood actor

2488

There is at least four in the BSP.

Carlos Logan (Barrow)

Lee Elam (Vics)

Matt Bailey (Vics)

Phil Bolland (Cambridge United)

Plus two dodgy ones:

Michael Rankine (Rushden & Diamonds) - didn't he once play for Alty in a friendly/trial match at Witton Albion?

Nat Kerr (Barrow) - trialist at Alty last Summer?

Thanks for what is probably the definitive answer............completely forgot that Bailey was at Vics..he was on loan to us from (I think) Crewe.
Bolland was one I really should have got, having worked for several years with his late Father

2489
I don't know the definite answer..........I can think of two and maybe there are only two

2490
Maybe tomorrows trivia question should be.........name all the ex-alty players who have played against Altrincham FC this season ?

Could be too easy because I can only think of Two so far (in BSP)
