Braintree Match Thread
« on: October 03, 2024, 12:29:52 PM »

Guess we are struggling for a recognised cb. Can see Banks playing there and Jones back in.

Braintree 1-2 Alty (Linney Jones)

Good luck and safe travels

Probably a daft question, but have there been any updates at all re. the availability or otherwise of either of our centre backs?

Injury update, from Altrincham Football Club? They are released in line with the Mayan calendar and so come around roughly 344 years.

In seriousness, no and it would be great to get one maybe at the start or end of each month.

I am still hoping there will be an emergency loan incoming based on Parky's post match interview the other day. Also rather there not be if we haven't found the right man yet.

Otherwise Banks in the middle with Golden on the right. Time to put some credentials behind ourselves with a run of wins.

Good opportunity for Eddy Jones to come back in, I guess - although Banks won't have played in the middle for a very long time.

He's improved significantly going forward since he first joined, he's a real threat - so we definitely lose a real aspect of our play there.

I see your point but Golden would be great there too.

I think the point was that Tylor Golden might have to return to right back to cover for Lewis Banks if he goes into the middle to cover for Jake Cooper - but given that none of us has a clue who is actually available, who knows...

Connor Teale (CB) signed up in time for tomorrow. Cooper must be out then.

Another long trek to the SE tomorrow but assume the lads have done an overnighter. Even from London it?s a pain to get to-proper little end of the line town Braintree.

We did enough last Saturday on a horrible pitch, so back on grass tomorrow is a big plus. Guess the intrigue will be how the defence sets up. Outside chance Baines could be available alongside J Jones. If not for the new lad then, who I believe Parky has had his eye on for a while. Wilson in CM to replace Crawford & Crankshaw after not being risked on the Tamworth astro back on the bench (maybe in line for a start vs Solihull).

Braintree have really struggled for goals but still have a reasonable home record beating Fax & Aldershot there so we?ll need to be on our mettle. Its going to be low scoring & few chances but we?ve turned into a proper Conference outfit over the past year & now know what it takes in these affairs so I reckon we?ll do them 2-0. Full credit to anyone travelling all that way. Need a win to keep that momentum up with two weeks until the next league game after this.

Teale starting. Linney and Nuttall both in the team. Bailey on the bench.
Come on you Supers! 🏆 🇦🇹 🤞

I've considered the likes of Dave Furnivall and Darren Royle, but I have to say that Joe Nuttall is the poorest striker I've ever seen in an Alty shirt.

Joe is much better than Darren Royle

If I had started today I would have been better than Royale ffs

I don't believe in scapegoating but it's strange that both my Blackpool supporting mate and my Oldham supporting mate share the same view of Joe Nuttall.

We all know the role Joe Nuttall is going to play this season - and it doesn't involve him being in the starting lineup. Looking slightly sharper off the bench of late simply confirms that - not make him a starter.

Not a fan of tinkering with the lineup at the best of times, and obviously we had a couple of enforced changes - but it should have been left at that, nothing more.

Kahrel Reddin getting 15 minutes or so isn't enough.

Tom Crawford won't be concerned about getting his place back for the next game.

Three home games now, Solihull, Gateshead and Hartlepool. Hopefully, by Gateshead, Baines, Coops and Marriott will be back in the fold 🤞

Aweful performance today
Either played the long ball from the back which inevitably went stright tothem or we tried playing out from the back and got squeezed out. We need to keep pushing forward rather than passing back all the time which usually ends up us losing possession in our own half. Certainly looked like Braintree knew our style and just shut us down. Very physical (as were Tamworth last week) and we couldnt deal with it today.

Dont think we had more than 1 shot on goal 1st half.
Poor decisions from the referee - mostly not in our favour.
We need to up our game if we are going to get anything out of this season.
