Gateshead was off other day, maybe same tomorrow, weather warning out for tomorrow. snow and ice warning. Quite a bit of rain and sleat due from 1am in the morning.

Safe travels if making the trip.

Looks like Caleb in goal on Saturday based on the attached.

I'm sure Caleb will do his best.

Announced finally he also has ACL injury, heard on the grapevine it was operated on the other day. Hope Eddy makes a full recovery.

Amount of injuries is disconcerting.

I agree on the presence point and his shot stopping ability is self-evident (interestingly those are the two things he cites as his strengths in one interview I watched) but the weaknesses I saw in the PSV U21 game in December were the same ones we saw last night. I don't think he's ready for first team football yet. Maybe he's a quick learner and those edges will be knocked off in a few games' time. The trouble is we don't have that time to bed someone in - we need a goalkeeper who's the finished article already.
Agree whole heartedly.

Well, he's passed his first test. Coming out to deal with a one on one situation with an outstretched boot on 19 minutes. Phew! ::)

Hmm - gave away possession on 23 minutes in a similar fashion to the PSV game. :-\

Bit if a heart in mouth moment on 35 minutes as he spilled the ball but quickly recovered.

Very shaky again dealing with a short pass back under pressure on 43 minutes. We do have a one goal cushion thanks to Newby now though.

HALF TIME - A reasonable performance from him so far. He did his job when called upon in the 19th minute but some of the issues he had with the ball at his feet in the PSV U21 game were also evident. That's really where he needs to gain confidence.

57 minutes and Oldham have a goal back from Norwood. It was a well placed shot but Ansen didn't seem to make much effort to save it. Still the one goal cushion thanks to Linney.

OH NO! An absolute HOWLER on 80 minutes. Letting the ball slip through his hands from a simple catch and it's a nod-in for who else but Lundstram. I'm lost for words really.

Some redemption with a great save down to his left on 86 minutes.

Surreal moment on 95 minutes as Ansen kicks the ball from his hands directly into an Oldham player a few feet away and the referee awards us a free kick for, well, no one's exactly sure.

FULL TIME - We nearly steal it at the end. 2-2 is a decent result but you have to feel it would have been all three points with a fit Ethan between the sticks. We pretty much spent the whole second half shielding Ansen who I can't see being our favoured stand-in on the basis of this performance. Grateful to him for the saves he pulled off and I'm sure he'll be cursing himself for that second Oldham goal. The saves he did make show he's certainly a propect - but far from the finished article overall.

You know he was hurting at the end, as he stayed in opposite half till he was grabbed by Olson. Difficult to come in at short notice for I imagine the biggest game of his carreer to date. Shame Ethan is injured. But club need to get this position sorted asap. New keeper or hope Randall gets fit, or play Fallon..

Well. We are trousering some decent wonga from this competition at least. Believe that?s another 15k whether we win or lose in the next round. Far more than the FA put into the Trophy pot. Our midweeks between now & the end of the season look increasingly hectic.

Seems guaranteed to be Newcastle given the format of the draw - much more interesting playing Prem U21's than other teams at this level I suppose.

My guess is that the game will have to be played pretty quickly - I think the QF's were scheduled to have already been played, but I'm guessing postponements have pushed it back.

Assuming it's played fairly soonish, I'm sure it'll continue to be useful to give players minutes - Eddy Jones, Jake Cooper, Kian Taylor, Regan Griffiths, Justin Amaluzor, Ollie Crankshaw, Jake Bickerstaff, plus possibly get one game of Matty Kosylo's suspension out of the way too.

Kacper Pasiek was on Preston's bench last night, so I assume that means he's gone back permanently and maybe Eddy is nearing fitness (or Preston recalled him themselves).

Don't think this competition qualifies for Kosylo and his suspension of 4 games.

The money is useful. Maybe put towards a keeper.

agree with all other comments, great turn out by Alty fans and made ourselves heard.

Would have taken a point before the game, shame it was an error that got Oldham out of jail. Parky and Sorvs have some big decisions to make there in the GK area, crucial we get tit correct for the run in. Shame Matty let us all down, he would have been good to bring on.. Other injuries worry me, were getting far too many again. Now have Ross, E Jones, Crankshaw, Marriott (but appeared to be warming up), Wilson, anyone else I missed.

It's no disrespect to Fallon,Parky said he need to find another keeper, if he cannot, we will all back Fallon. He would definitely do his best but is very inexperienced at this level. Now have a keeper from Norwich on loan

New long term contract for Alty

Congratulations Lucas, good deal for both sides here. See a lot of potential.

I am sure he will start bagging goals as well soon.

Got our tickets last night, 3 of us going. No idea how many sold, does not say.

See Weaver got a new improved contract. That's good he has alot of potential.

Hopefully Ross can play and if not we announce a keeper tonight in on loan.

Forward line, no idea. But COYR.

Turning the clock back to 1968 when i started out on my magical Alty ride,  the Main Stand had wooden benches but that was ok , really good access from both sides, plenty of room to stretch out the legs etc, good view of the pitch from all areas top to bottom, snack bar to the side stacked with goodies (those pies were the best) , and both Ladies and Gents toilets round the back.  It was'nt the best atmosphere tbh but definitely a worthy match day experience for those wishing to sit down .  Fast forward 57  years........
Yes, was a wooden bench when I started watching in 1977. Think it changed in the 80's when we bought some 2nd hand seats from someone. It then got a bit cramped. Seems we will have to manage until a new stand gets built one day....
