NEW MYSQUARE pitch sponsorship - YOUR MAGIC MOMENTS!!
« on: September 25, 2009, 04:16:16 PM »

All,

Great news, the "My Square" pitch sponsorship scheme will be running again for the 2009/10 season. We will be taking sponsors for the squares on a first come first served basis starting at the Mansfield game on October 10th 2009. This is a fantastic fundraiser for the club and a fantastic way to own your own little part of Moss Lane and have your name in the matchday programme.

This year we will have a pitch map on a whiteboard in the club shop before games and in the Noel White Suite afterwards so you can see your name 'up in lights' as soon as you join.

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF VARIATION THIS SEASON...

"SWINDELLS SQUARES" - Each of the squares in the 6 yard boxes at Moss Lane will be named in honour of our greatest goal getter, the late, great Jackie Swindells. The "My Square" page of the Robins Review will focus on these on 6 occasions and the sponsor will be able to give their recollections of Jackie.

"FREEMAN" and "WELCH" squares - these will be available by auction and again will feature in the programme.

AND HERE’S WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP

“MAGIC MOMENT” SQUARES – We plan to allocate certain squares of the Moss Lane pitch to magical Robins moments of the past. For example, the square just on the edge of the Golf Road penalty area where Ken McKenna slipped home his last gasp winner against Kettering in 1991. Again, this would be featured in a particular edition of Robins Review and the sponsor would be able to add their own recollections of the event.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a goal, each part of Moss Lane has it’s own memories.

But what are these “Magic Moments”? Over to you, please post here (or email altytasc@tiscali.co.uk) those goals, moments, and parts of the pitch that should be designated as special squares (Showler’s goal v Macc? Tunna’s header v Dagenahm?) so that we know which ones to allocate specially.

GO!!.....

If we could keep the banal and pointless postings to the other threads that would be great...

Need some ideas here for this fundraising initiative.

To get it back on track, how about just outside the Chequers penalty area for Paul Showler's goal against Macc in the FA Cup replay drubbing of October 1990. Picked the ball up after good solid full back work by Harry Wiggins and Paul Paul skipped to the ball round a succession of Macc defenders before driving a shot with the outside of his left foot in off the near post. Absolutely vintage Showler, summed him and that magnificent team up to a tee. An absolutely legendary Alty goal.  :)

An obscure but vital one...

The Andy Lovelock square, for his goal at the Golf Road End against Emley that clinched promotion from the Unibond in April 1999.

Or even the 'Hand of Eddie Hussin' square at the Chequers End to commemorate that goal against Droylsden?

For older supporters, perhaps the 'Joe Neenan Memorial Square' at the Golf Road End, in memory of the Sc**thorpe goalkeeper's knee connecting with Kingy's prized possessions and thereby resulting in the penalty that John Davison tucked away to secure our trip to Anfield.

All 3 valid squares Cult although If ear the Neena one will conflict with Sir Jackie's squares.

Come on now, you're dying to relive Tunna's 2nd minute header...

Ballers,

I sponsored that very square, where the mighty Tunna buried a header to record his first Alty goal against Dagenham, in the previous two seasons that the MySquare scheme was running.

Dale Johnson wouldn't have scored that goal...!

Sponsor it again this year and you'll have your chance to explain to an expectant readership just how good Tunna was and what a header it was, although writing in the programme isn't a novelty for you I admit.

By the way, bump everybody, let's have some ideas!

There should really be an Andy Green square to commemorate his long range effort against Halifax in 1995/96.

The penalty spots are available separately.  I suspect the most vital one was the one that took us to Anfield in 1981, well it was in December 1980 technically. We could ask the sponsor for their view.

The Andy Green one is a good shout, perhaps the one at the Chequers end where Chris Sharratt scored against Wiganas well?

Keep them coming...
