Altrincham Town?

Piss poor.

We were in the Guardian yesterday by the way - just a snippet though.

As ill-informed as that article is, I am inclined to think that any publicity is good publicity.

Anything which potentially gets people thinking about the club and possibly through the turnstiles is a good thing.

If you want to see what massive coverage we have had stick "Altrincham Ponting" into google and have a look. Truely amazing!

I noticed a couple of news agencies described us as 'a lowly English football team'  :D

Cheeky bastards.

I understand how people feel when the media get the name wrong, but it's one of those annoying things that happen

Do you remember the sketch where Mel Smith & Griff Rhys Jones used the word "flange" to describe a group of gorillas?  There are now people who believe that is the correct term.  It isn't but that's not the point.  Now add on internet access and speed.  Too many people beleive everything they read online, they shouldn't, but the point is they do.

Now on top of gullibility & access online, add the layer of lazy journalists.  I read a piece in the NLP on Sunday about who would finish where, there was a one liner about Gateshead being OK, but NOTHING to substantiate that or explain why.  Lazy lazy writing, lazy editing.

This is how rumours become 'fact'.  This is how Altrincham FC became Altrincham Town FC.  Irritating yes, but unless we are going to correct the internet I reckon we just laugh and live with it.

Altrincham FC has, this week, received WORLDWIDE media coverage. I don't think some people are grasping this fully.

I don't care if we got called Altrincham Cheesecake Eating Champions F.C., the media exposure is exactly what this club needs!
