Today's Alty trivia question - players used.
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:54:26 PM »

The NLP said that we used 29 players this season. I presume they referred to league games only. As ever it's inaccurate! Going from the stats in the grays programme we had 28 players who got on the pitch and 3 who were on the bench but didn't play (Owen, Heffernan and McFadden). Without cheating or looking at other posts how many of these can you name? (I got 25 out of the 28).

Let's see, without cheating I can recall:-

Keepers: Coburn, Accy, lad who went to Oz whose name escapes me (how crap is that!?) / THREE
Defenders: Lane, Smith, McGregor, Young, Welch, Doughty, Peyton, Tierney, Waterfall / NINE
Midfielders: Densmore, Danylyk, Lawton, Wilkinson, Hadfield / FIVE
Forwards: Senior, Johnson, Denham, O'Neill, Elam, Meechan, Little, Thornley, Banim / NINE

That's 26. Really can't think of anyone else...

Thinking maybe Kevin Street at the start of the season?
Andy Ralph the other keeper

26 out of 28 here.

Completely forgot about Richard Battersby and then Ben Wilkinson (which shows what a profound impression the latter player made on my conscious mind...!).

Maybe tomorrows trivia question should be.........name all the ex-alty players who have played against Altrincham FC this season ?

Could be too easy because I can only think of Two so far (in BSP)

Is it just two? There both obvious, and its all I can get.

There is at least four in the BSP.

More if we count Chesh cup ties against Witton, Nantwich etc.

There is at least four in the BSP.

Carlos Logan (Barrow)

Lee Elam (Vics)

Matt Bailey (Vics)

Phil Bolland (Cambridge United)

Plus two dodgy ones:

Michael Rankine (Rushden & Diamonds) - didn't he once play for Alty in a friendly/trial match at Witton Albion?

Nat Kerr (Barrow) - trialist at Alty last Summer?

Thanks for what is probably the definitive answer............completely forgot that Bailey was at Vics..he was on loan to us from (I think) Crewe.
Bolland was one I really should have got, having worked for several years with his late Father

Mick,

I think that Matt Bailey was actually a Stockport County player when he joined Alty on loan during the 2003/04 season.

He came to us around the same time as that winger Jamie Baguley, who is remembered solely for his 'suicidal' 60 yard back pass against Worksop Town at Moss Lane....
