I asked if the Wetherspoons were doing anything for St.George's day. They said no. When i complained and asked why they celebrated a foreign saint and not our own they said there is not enough interest.

Foreign saint? St George came from (what is now) Turkey!!!
And he's not just the patron saint of England but of many other countries/regions - just think of the flags on show at a Barcelona game

It is very unlikely that George ever existed. The point is this is supposed to be a celebration of our country, English day. Plenty of pubs are happy to celebrate Irish day but they don't want to know about England.

I'm Northern Irish so not particularly bothered, but I think the English should make more of St.George's Day. I have noticed a slight rise in the number of flags/events over the past couple of years...

St George's Day is definitely getting bigger each year (and a good thing too, as it is a good excuse to get the ales in, at least).

Bombardier bitter (a good ale as it 'appens)  do a lot of marketing based around St Georges Day-like the way Guinness have pushed St Patrick's day, but on a much smaller scale.

A few years ago hardly anyone bothered at all, now a few pubs and breweries are pushing it more. In a few years we might get an English bank holiday (like the Scots and Irish do, I think). Now that would be nice...

St Georges day should be a bank holiday and a national celebration of our cultures and traditions in our green and pleasant land.

I have just murdered a full English with two cups of Rosy Lee.

Happy St Georges day to all Alty fans!

St Patrick was Scottish.

And therefore English.  ;)

There are countless Irishmen that have been made English heros, some of whom Ireland and society in general find an embarasment.
