Six go, leaving Vics short on numbers

1:19pm Monday 23rd February 2009

By Andrew Simpson »

HALF a dozen players have asked to follow Steve King out of the exit door at the Marston’s Arena. The six – Jay Conroy, Dean Lodge, Dean McDonald, Owen Price, Steve Robinson and Stuart Robinson – are all likely to have their wish granted. None will face Kettering tomorrow, Tuesday.
Steve Robinson and Lodge are under contract, leaving them to negotiate their impending departures with owner Jim Rushe.
Rushe, who doubles up as manager of Cheshire League Division One title chasers Woodley, is likely to be on the bench for the visit of the Poppies. *

+Assume that means he will be managing the side?

This is getting daft now. We might get to the AGM Cup with no relegation spots to be decided.

By the way, if Woodley are 'title-chasers', then so are we. They lie 14th out of 21 and are 12 points off the playoff (20 odd off the top)

All the Southern players buggering off once King leaves, and no northern players to mak eup the numbers?

What a shock!  ::) I couldn't possibly have seen that coming, in fact I'm still astounded that Steve King wasn't a success coming up from the other end of the country.  :D

In actual fact Woodley (not Woodley Sports) are second in the first division of the Cheshire Football League (formerly Mid Cheshire League) One point behind Middlewich Town with two games in hand.

The next step up from the Cheshire League is the North West Counties so, in time and with a following wind and the luck of the draw we could be playing them in The Cheshire Senior Cup.

Coincidently, it appears Woodley Sports do have a connection to Vics, as Ben Connett now appears to be playing for them.

Just to 'in actual fact' you back ATS, I think you'll find that THAT Woodley is Woodley Sports Reserves.
Stalybridge Reserves are fourth, Trafford Reserves are sixth and Curzon Ashton Reserves are bobbing around mid-table.

(Incidentally, that would be a good league to put our reserves in if we ever start them up again IMO)

To return the favour  Mr Saughall,  the Woodley in the Cheshire League (a league on which I officiate) are absolutely, 100% nothing whatsoever to do with Woodley Sports and could be considered as Northwich reserves in all but name.

I do by the way agree entirely about it being a good place to put a reserve side and, given the increasing number of Reserve teams from fairly senior North West non league clubs in the league it may not be quite such a poor standard as is currently perceived.

FYI up to the end of last season there were reserve sides from Witton and FCUM also in the league.

Correct Jenga.  A farce, a joke and a laughing stock.

what this league needs is a huge dose of reality.

It's my own fault for believing the NLP! In the league tables in the back of it, it shows the team as their reserves  ::)
