46 points anyone? (oops)
« on: February 27, 2008, 01:53:37 PM »

It's not that I'm in a good mood or anything after last nights heroics, but does anyone else believe that 46 points is a realistic total for this season.  I know this represents 18 points from 13 games and therefore well above what we've achieved to date, but if we can recover our home form and continue picking up points away its not impossible.

And probably neccessary!

Had a similar coversation this morning and came up with 42 points.

I think this is realistic and also enough to keep us up just about!

Its going down to the last day again, hold on to your undercrackers!

The must wins are Halifax and Stafford at home and Weymouth away.

The can wins are Salisbury and Crawley at home and Kidderminster and Grays away

The write offs are Torquay at home, Exeter, Aldershot and Burton away

Which leaves Forest Green at home and Ebbsfleet away as other potential sources of points

Id say forest green is a definite 'can win'.

Dont think we'll get much change out of shots away, pretty sure most of the top teams will take note of last nights result and refrain from acting all big-time.

We had a "points thread" a couple of days ago, but I still think 42 points is a realistic target. Obviously, there will some ridiculous results like Alty beating Aldershot and Northwich beating Exeter along the way, but I think we have to say that:

Halifax and Stafford Weymouth are HUGE
Forest Green, Crawley, Kiddy, Salisbury and Grays are "winnable"
We cant expect much out of Exeter, Ebbsfleet, Burton, Torquay

4 wins + a couple of draws sounds realistic to me.

I can't help feeling that the way the season is going for the clubs we are playing will have a big effect on a few of those games. For example, I suspect that Ebbsfleet may have nothing to play for by the time we play them. Equally, if weymouth (or us) are either down or safe by the last day then that will have a big impact on the likely outcome.

I really can't see any of the current bottom 3 getting over 40 points, it seems very unlikely that any of them are going to get more points from up to 16 games than they have in 30 unless they make massive personel changes, which seems very unlikely given the transfer window

Its so difficult to predict: there are so many unpredictable results in this league, especially at this time of the season.

I think we will pick up a few surprise results of our own.

Without sounding patronising, every game we play is 'winnable'..............there are only 3 outcomes in football; you win, lose or draw and it is not necesarily the best team that gets the best result.

How many times this season have we been the better team and lost, when a win or a draw would have been a 'fairer' outcome, What we need to do, is to somehow do enough to get the same kind of results.

Last night seems like a good start, the match report clearly indicates that Torquay were the better side, yet the result says both teams were equal !!
If we had gone up the field and scored in the last 30 secs we would have undeservedly won the game (like Farsley almost did at Moss Lane recently)
I see no reason why we cannot go to some of the bigger teams and win points. No manager worth a carrot would go out to lose a game.

Halifax had a winding up order served against them today. I wonder if that will have a bearing on any of the above?

Between 39 and 42 may well be enough. I think on a points per game basis we would currently finish 5th bottom on 39 points.
