Anyone got any tales of Freddie?
With White and Swales, Freddie created the club!
Sad to hear he's not too well these days.

I was there on that occasion and take it from me it was p**s funny!

Brian Fidler running up to the Alty dug out to take a rise out of Fred who promptly chucked the trainers water bucket over him - magic sponge and all. It really quenched his enthusiasm!

It did kick off a little at the time - and a lot more walking over to the changing room block at full time (but that's another story)

My main memory of the occasion was laughing so much I got a stitch!

I can't find it on the interbnet but there was a piece about this in the evening news last year. Freddie Pye got married, and someone (this Fidlerbloke presumably) came and threw a bucket of confetti over him and his wife. Saying about how he'd been waiting 30 years for his revenge etc. (they are mates btw, he was invited at the wedding).

I remember the season after the first water incident, Fidler scoring the winning goal for Macc against us and then pouring the bucket of water over himself!

When I first started to watch the Robins I used to wlak up from Timperley and Freddie on several occasions picked me up (seeing the 17 foot long red and white scarf weighing this 11 year old youth down! The best bit was that Fred had a very smart roller. Some days keeper George Smith also gave me a lift - in his light green Austin A40, some come down from the roller.
Long life to Freddie and his famous camel hair coat!
Can't go to the do at City but hope lots of Alty fans get there!

His scrap business Pollitt and Pye was on whichever one of Bath St/Brown St Bold St/Byrom St runs down the side of the railway (bookie's on the corner).

They used to advertise in the cinema's in Altrincham and Hale too. I'm old enough to remember when White and Swales sold out to Rumbelows. You could still drive down George Street in those days. And petrol was 95p a gallon, let alone a litre. You could leave your front door open all day then too. People would still nick everything you owned mind.
