Features rather prominently on the Birmingham DVD by the way.

Top man.

Most people will have many memories of you, great goals etc...I started quite late into your career so my main memories are

1) You getting the winner in  a 1-0 win on a Tuesday night at home, pouring down against Sutton United.  I think there may have been a record low crowd there

2) The outrage when you and Mick Farrelly were sold to Macc!

Ecky,

Had to consult my records about this one!

Wednesday, 5th April 1989

Altrincham 1 Sutton United 0

Indeed, the goalscorer was a certain Ronnie Ellis.

The attendance was a woeful figure of 332.

Another strange season, which included the sacking of Jeff Johnson as manager; the euphoria of that 4-0 FA Cup replay trouncing of Macc; the 3-2 FA Cup victory over Lincoln City at Moss Lane; Gary Stewart's missed penalty against Halifax Town at the Chequers End in an FA Cup tie that was featured on Match Of The Day; an FA Trophy Quarter-Final defeat at Dartford, which precipitated an end-of-season slump and, as I recall, numerous off the pitch problems in the shape of Boardroom conflicts relating to a battle for control of the club.

At last I have actually remembered something correctly (apart from the day)..I feel like Management Guru

That could well have been our lowest ever Conference crowd!

332! I can't recall us ever getting crowds that low. Was that a one off, bad weather etc or was there a trend then?

It was hammering it down and I don't think Sutton had a fan.

Great Ronnie moments apart from Birmingham:-

1) Two goals against Lincoln in the FA Cup.
2)The equaliser at Aylesbury as we came from behind to win on the opening day of the season in 1988/9.I think that this was the day Ricky Harris made his debut for Alty.
3) A last minute equaliser at Wycombe's old ground
4) A brilliant left foot strike from at least 25 yards to give us a thrilling 3-2 win against Enfield at Moss Lane.
5) The lob to break the deadlock in the FA Trophy Semi-Final 2nd Leg against Enfield.

The closing stages of the 1988/89 season included a couple of other alarmingly low attendances.

Six days after that Sutton United game, only 343 were present at Moss Lane for the visit of Boston United.

The match against Fisher Athletic (did they ever bring even one supporter with them?) on 19th April 1989 only attracted 337 spectators.

Not really sure what the underlying reason for these low crowds was.....although the warring Boardroom factions of the time might have disillusioned some of the diehards?

I remember (sort of) two identical headed goals in five mins to turn around a 1-0 into a 2-1 win FA cup vs Halifax or Huddersfield I think

I think you may be referring to the 3-2 win against Lincoln City in 1988.We were 2-1 down with about 15 minutes to go & Ronnie scored a header after Gary Stewart headed on a corner & a volley after a cross from the right was half cleared by a Lincoln defender.

Mark Sertori scored one of the Lincoln goals.
