Boss McEwan & York part company

From BBC website: "York City manager Billy McEwan has left the Blue Square Premier club."

"It is with regret that York City Football Club has parted company with manager Billy McEwan."

Although York were not in the best position, I am surprised he has been dismissed. I liked the cut of his jib and I think York would have improved sooner rather than later. McEwan will not be out of a job for long - Farsley maybe??

I cxan see him going to Farsley - can they afford him - but I can also see him going to a league team.

8 defeats at home out of 12 games, including an embarrassing home defeat in the FA Cup, and 19th in the Conference?

There's patience boys, and there's stupidity.

Great bloke, will remember him fondly, but he had to go.

Whats been the difference this season Phil? Is it the players, the tactics? I dont think he will have become a bad manager over-night surely?

He's done well up to last season, and didn't he do well when money was short?

Remember, however, we are the team who has stood by Graham Heathcote in similar doodoos.

To answer both of you in one go......!

The players Billy brought it this season were simply not good enough. Or should I say ARE not good enough because unfortunately they are still here. I'm sure a few eyebrows were raised in Altrincham when a supposedly title-chasing side signed the likes of Stuart Elliott and Paul Brayson from Northwich! Plus Chris Beardsley from Rushden, Mark Robinson from Torquay and ultimately Billy fell foul of his own often-stated motto - "If you bring in Conference players you will only ever be a Conference team".

He was right. We are. And not a very good one.

To answer the second point about sticking by a manager, I think that's a question of expectation. Alty are just below where you expected to be and so Heathcote still has favours "in the bank" among supporters. If you stay up this season, and looking at Farsley I think you will, then he has done a great job. BUT York City are WAY below what we expected. WAY below. Not 3 or 4 places but 13-18 places! So it's a far more serious situation.

Maybe there was, but as crowds fell and nothing changed, something had to be done.

Like you, we are trying to run our club within it's very small means, losing money on gate receipts because of failure on the pitch couldn't continue.

No shock to me.  Overheard plent of blokes at work having a pop at McEwan after just a couple of games.  I just had that feeling this would be a tough season after going so close last.

tough, but his time was well and truly up!
