Great highlights thanks.

My take on the Senior "goal" was that Senior is flagged offside, ref decides he's not interfering with play so waves play on.  Senior then runs forward to score, without first returning to an onside position (this bit's a guess as I can't tell from highlights) is then obviously interfering with play or active or whatever the new mad rule calls it.  At that point ref blows up as he is now offside and so freekick to York.

Any good?

I will post a couple of DVD copies across to Hughesy (if he sends me an address!) so that if you want to watch it in better quality in the bar on Saturday you would be most welcome. That's if you've got a DVD player, which I assume you have?

Mark them for the attention of

Mr. Peter Hughes
c/o The Old Porterhouse
Stamford New Road
Altrincham
Cheshire.

I'll have one if you can please mate, and do we fcukk have a dvd player in the bar?

No, the Polish bar maid asked me to go out with her last night. I said I was at the animal sanctuary doing voluntary work, she'll killl me if she sees me at York celebrating Joe O'neills equaliser.  :D

Agreed but the keeper walked out of the area with the ball

In that case I have no defense to offer M'lud - the ref has cocked it up good and proper.

I guess most is the same but, my version would have been...

A through ball was played by Whalley, Senior start to run for it, but as the defender headed it back to the keeper, the ref said play on as york had possession. He then acknowledged the off side to the linesman to tell him to put his flag down as playing advantage. Then the keeper walked out of his area and rolled the ball out, only to see senior knock it past him, while he was dosing. Then the ref changed his mind about playing advantage and gave the INITIAL off side.

Having seen the incident on you tube of the goal that never was. If the ref has waved play on and not blown his whistle. If I was that ref I would of given a goal. Even if Coburn had done the same thing and York scored in similar circumstances.
There is 3 similar instances that I can recall where a goal was given.
The first instance was years ago. I think Kelham O'Hanlon was in goal for Preston in a League Cup tie that televised on granada soccer night. The same thing happened. A goal was awarded
2nd instance was Kevin Deardan in goal for Brentford at Bristol Rovers about 8 years ago. Someone in the crowd blew a whistle. He thought it was the refs whistle. So he did what the York keeper did last night. A goal was awarded
3rd instance. Solihull Boro v Chester. F.A.Trophy 3rd Round replay. Dean Spink is flagged offside. Ball go straight to the keeper. Ref waves play on. Spink retreats to half-way line. Keeper kicks ball straight to Spink who runs unchallenged to score while the defenders are appealling for off-side. A goal was awarded.

www.thisistrafford.co.uk

But this blow failed to dent Alty's self-belief.

They launched attack after attack on the York goal and would have been level on 74 minutes had it not been for some slapstick refereeing.

The man in the middle waved play on after Alty were caught offside but, not paying proper attention, York keeper Stephen Henderson assumed a free kick had been given and gathered the ball before rolling it out.

A gleeful Senior pounced on his gaffe to fire home but the referee then decided to pull play back and instead, gave the home side a free kick.

I'm a little suprised ATS hasn't commented on this. Would be semi-interested to hear his take on this decision.
Very interesting to see that the ref apologised afterwards.
