Shame!

"500 miles" was one of my favourite songs at the Golf Road End!

Rod epitomises what being a true club man means.  His commitment to Alty during his time has been great as were most of his goals.  Sad to see him go but I suppose all good things must come to an end.  I still think he could have done a good job on the field but he needed to be playing regularly.
Good luck Rod and thanks for the memories.

What an inspiring quality player loved by the fans leaving so many memories.

We think we've had it tough over the last decade but Rod is the latest in a line of legends to spring up and stand proud alongside the likes of all the heroes of yesteryear....perhaps even prouder in these days of low pay and struggle. Rod has not been loyal coz of a big pay packet.

One of my all time favourite players in 30 years of watching Alty...when that list includes players like the 'cote, Barry Howard, John Rogers, Bomber Harris, it's some accolade.

Welcome back anytime Rodders...

has he gone to Witton to see if his voice breaks?

there's an all singing all dancing tribute to Rodders on the star site www.altystartrust.com

Another sad day to rank alongside Mad Dog and Chrissy going, another harsh reminder of the level we're at. Just a top, top man. I hope he's not too upset about this, speaking to him on Monday you could see how disappointed he was not to be playing. The word legend is overused but he is one, from his goals right through to his speech at last seasons race night.

A bloke who has played a huge part in saving Alty from disappearing off the footballing radar. I don't think people will ever forget his initial impact, goals against Nuneaton, Vics on Boxing day and one of my favourite all time Alty moments against Eastbourne. Good luck Rod.

I don't see much of the players (life of an exile) but Rod always stood out as the most enthusiastic of them all, even when he'd travelled hundred+ miles just to be a sub he was still full of smiles and enjoying being part of things.  Favourite Rod goal was St Albans last year.

Good luck Rod and thanks for all you've done

I thought that the writing was on the wall for Rod when Pat McFadden was selected in preference to him at Stafford Rangers last Monday.

To my mind, it's a sensible move for both parties.

Some great Thornley memories, particularly during the first half of the 2001/02 season, when he was at his peak.

I just hope that his move to Witton doesn't mean that Cavell Coo drops back to the bench!

Let's hope that we are writing similarly eulogistic tributes to Carlos Logan in six years from now.

Rod will do a top job for Witton.

A true legend at Alty in my book, for the things he did on and off the pitch.

From the shirts that made us thousands to him always being at club functions and always giving 100%.

Thanks Rod, top man.

I would like to second this a true Alty servant through and through the very best of luck for the future
