RIP Ray
« on: December 15, 2024, 09:36:28 PM »

We lost a long time and well respected supporter this morning . Ray Sant, who posted as distance traveller on the forum. He travelled from Shrewsbury for every home game and took in a good number of away trips also all over the country. Ray was at peace and surrounded by family when he passed after being struck down with short but acute illness. He did manage to come up for the Southend game to say some personal goodbyes and see his beloved alty whilst he could still manage the journey. As a man who wasn?t for fuss he didn?t make
Much mention of his condition. But his wife Jan contacted me this evening so I could let those that knew Ray hear the sad news of his passing. RIP Ray, you shall be missed.

Ray was a lovely guy, and one of our most dedicated supporters.

I remember standing with him at Worcester City for an FA Trophy game, where Duncan Watmore produced an astounding run down the right before crossing the ball to Simon Richman who literally couldn't miss.

We turned to each other and simultaneously said "What a piece of skill!" I will cherish that memory.

RIP Ray, you will be sadly missed by all of us who were privileged to know you.

Sad news indeed. Had many a chinwag on the pop side with him before I became too knackered to stand up for two hours and retreated to the seats.

Shocked and saddened to hear this. Always chatted with Ray on the Popside prematch where he would be in his usual position. I had no idea he was unwell and I regret now staying in the seats during the Southend game when I had been in the Sponsors Lounge.
Terrible news.
Ray once told me he grew up near to the ground and had even been a mascot in the 1960s.
RIP Ray and my condolences to Jan.

RIP Ray and my condolences to Jan.

He was taken onto the pitch by Tommy Banks, an ex-England footballer from the 58 world cup and until recently the oldest England player alive

This is indeed very sad news. With Ray in Shrewsbury and me in Broseley it felt like we were 'Shropshire Alty' alongside anyone else here. I will miss your posts - fella.
