AFC Fylde Match Thread

Tough away fixture v Fylde, they seem to have found some form..

Think starting line-up will be as Tuesday night barring any injuries.

Hoping to get too the game, lads need the support. #COYR

Nullify Haughton and have a positive set up from the start and we beat them. Hopefully Cooper or Olsen to partner Baines because James Jones passes backwards or out of play. 2-0 away win and 294 travelling in the away end

Just don't play with a back three.

Well, I don't think the Baines/Jones partnership works at all, so I can see Olsen being recalled for this one. Given Wednesday's fixture, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see some rotation. Golden, Humbles, Osborne and Bickerstaff may return to the fold. I doubt it'll be the same 11. It'd be bloody marvellous to see either Crankshaw or Marriott on the bench.

Expect Crankshaw back but no chance of Marriott. Weeks away

As regards the team this season to date, it's all gone a bit stale, to my eyes.

Keep waiting for a catalyst to generate some excitement.

Yes. Last seasons team was, by no means, a one man band but playing in the preferred 4-2-3-1 formation we're certainly missing CCC even more than I anticipated. I don't know what the answer is.

It's on live TV so does this mean we can't get Radio Robins?

Was that the catalyst or spark we were looking for?

Absolutely vintage performance against a lacklustre Fylde side. Defence was solid, and we were absolutely clinical in taking the game away from Fylde like we did.

The most refreshing bit for me was the willingness to go direct when we needed to.

Always a luxury to bring your key men off after an hour and I'm particularly pleased for Alex Newby for bouncing back so strongly after getting a lot of stick.

Regan will bag so many goals this season, I feel it.

Two points off the playoffs, just a shame we have to wait so long for a game after that.

Indeed, just what was needed to lift everyone's spirits. Let's hope that really kick-starts our season now.

That was almost perfect revenge for that 6-0 home debacle in August 2016!

So delightful to see us humiliate that artificial club. They were astonishingly abject, and when even Elliot Osborne can score against you, you know that you really do have major problems...!

Linney becomes the first Alty player to score a hat-trick in a league fixture since the quasi-legendary Joe Piggott at Curzon Ashton in February 2019.

Now we need to identify the last Alty player to have scored a first-half hat-trick.

Early suggestions have included Don Weston on his debut against Vics in January 1969, or perhaps John Rogers when he bagged five goals against Worcester City in April 1982?

I was thinking just the same thing about that trouncing we endured under Neil Young, though my memory is telling me that we managed to get one goal that awful night.

From memory they were five up at half time - and in the second half they added a sixth.

That season I thought we wouldn't see them again - so it's all the sweeter for evenings like these.

As well as we played, we should note that Lucy Letby had a better defence than Fylde. I'm not sure that a two week break is what we really need right now.

Well worth the trip, one of the best away games we've played in sometime. we were clinical and direct when needed. Excellent.
