New season expectations
« on: August 03, 2024, 08:12:48 PM »

Having made the playoffs last season I suppose we'll be expecting something similar. Losing CCC though is huge, on both the goals and assists front. Players like him don't come along too often and its unfair to expect the management to have replaced him like for like. Recruitment has been solid though and the team of last season has another year's experience although we also may not be quite the unknown quantity we were last season. Clearly goals are going to have to be spread around the team more but we do have players with decent goal returns. I'd love to see us make the playoffs again, automatic promotion probably not realistic, but winning the FA Trophy and/or an appearance in the 3rd round of the FA Cup against a big club would be brilliant.

COYR!

The lads looked sharp and fit today, hopefully we can make the playoffs again but we did punch above our weight last season tbh.

Whatever happens let?s enjoy it.

Did we have a shot on target? If we did I missed it. And with Linney already out, it worries me that Nuttall looked to have pulled a muscle. If he's not fit for Saturday we have a major problem.

As I've said previously, we did overachieve somewhat last time but teams will be more ready for us this time.
That doesn't mean we won't do it again, but we'll have to be on it to do so.
My biggest concern is that teams will stand off us a bit more and will invite us to break them down. We weren't fantastic at that even with CCC.
Having said that, it appears that PP is changing things a bit. With several fast wide players we'll be able to change things a little and hopefully spring a few surprises of our own.
A top half finish at least I believe and a welcome change from fretting about where the 50 points are coming from.
Come on you Super Robins 👍

I reckon upper mid table personally. Think without CCC we?ll naturally fall back into the pack a bit. Suspect we?ll be a slightly different team, perhaps more solid with fewer 6-1 type results. But at the same time not falling to sucker punches like Woking at home or Hartlepool away. You look at Bromley last year, arch pragmatists. We obviously play a different style but think after quite a few years in this division now we are going to evolve once more. Hard to look beyond Barnet or FGR for the title but Southend now their ownership is finally sorted will fancy it too.

I suppose minimum expectation would be a top half finish, core objective would be another playoff finish.

Agree with the sentiment that our evolution in this division will probably take us away from the swashbuckling high scoring contests and towards being a more solid unit - we certainly look the part in that sense.

We've asked where the goals are going to come from previously and we've ultimately always ended up finding them from somewhere, so fingers crossed.

Dipping into the loan market this early in the season wouldn't be ideal, so hopefully just a raft of niggles that I'm sure most teams get with players coming back.

A first day win at home would be lovely wouldn't it!

Huge concern is where are the goals coming from. Hopefully Phil and Neil know the answer.

Hoping for a top half finish and a cup run

I think the plan is to get them via the wingers rather than the number 10?
Let's hope it works! 😉

A play off place would be great with a home game please. Cup runs in FA Cup and Trophy but not at the expense of our league campaign. Cheshire Senior Cup covered by our academy players who are well capable of giving a good account of themselves. Minimal injuries and yellow/red cards. Reintroduction of the pound pie.

By the way, seeing as this is the New Season Expectations thread,...
I'm expecting our season ticket cards to arrive before Saturday but they haven't done yet!
Have any of you lot had yours delivered yet? 🤔

PS. I notice on the main site it says they will be dispatched about two weeks from the start of the season so perhaps we've been overlooked?
