National League odds 24/25
« on: July 17, 2024, 02:19:47 PM »

Not quite as bizarre as last year's relegation prediction but the bookmakers still don't rate our chances this season - predicting a mid table finish outside the playoffs. For context, last season we were priced at 50/1.

So 4/1 to finish in the top three?
That's very tempting ... but, as I've mentioned before, the last time I bet on Alty we were relegated so I think I'll swerve it! 😉

Am I right in thinking we finished 4th last season or did I just imagine that?

I think the prices are distorted by the expected take up of the better supported clubs. Hence Oldham and Southend are so short.
And York being the same odds as us. 🤯

The starting 11 is currently weaker than last season all be it by only one player  so I suspect mid table is about right

If you bet each way but given we're unlikely to finish top tha twould be half a bet wasted. I'd be more tempted by a straight top 3 bet at 5/1 (Bet 365) or top 7 at 9/4 (Bet Victor)

Skybet and Bet Victor offering 2/3 on a top half finish! :o

Hesitate to say it, but isn't that's what's commonly termed Buying Money? 🤔😉

Very simplistic way of looking at things - the existing lads will continue to improve / gel together.

Possibly so , Maybe Kossy can do the job or Tom Crawford

My guess is that Tom Crawford is likely to start the season alongside Elliott in Isaac's absence?

It sounds like Kozzy is in the shape of his life - I'd definitely be considering him for the 10 role at the moment with Alex staying on the left.

As for the right, we haven't seen much of Justin Amaluzor so far from what I've read - injury/fitness issue?

No Amaluzor, no Crankshaw, no Marriott so far. If we consider those three nailed on starters we're 100% weaker for the start of the season. Be it through the guys not being available or by not having a complete pre-season regiment.

If we consider that we are without those three we are certainly stronger than we appear in our second half line up once we're up and running. I'd just like a strong start to the season for a change.

I'm also not going to sh*t on the two main new guys as I've not seen enough of them yet. My Northampton town supporting friend informed me they had extremely high hopes for Nuttall, then he made one start for them before being crocked. I'm praying we get a bit more than that out of him, and see the potential!

We're snatching the last Playoff spot at best though this season. A first time regression under Parky & Sorvs, but no less of an acheivement if you ask me.

Yes, exactly this. I think Parky is mulling over his best pre-september starting eleven.
Make no mistake, the lack of CCCs goals as well as his assists will be a big miss for us and, as I've said previously, could well result in a change in formation.
The hope is that with the quality of players in the Club now we can make it work and surprise a few teams who were starting to suss out how to set up against us.
If we can make the play offs again it would be a real achievement but not looking over our shoulders is great and is heartening for us fans.

We always find a way don't we - I remember going into the season a couple of years ago wondering where the goals were going to come from - and we scored plenty.

It would be a major achievement to reach the play offs again

Major over achievement last season.

Looking forward to the challenge .
