Mick Gannon RIP

Sad to report the death of another former Altrincham FC player.

Mick Gannon joined the Robins from Crewe Alexandra at the start of the 1970/71 season and proceeded to record a total of 39 (+2 as sub) Northern Premier League appearances for the club as a full-back.

A further 10 league appearances ensued in the 1971/72 season, during which he scored his solitary goal for the club in a 3-2 victory at Matlock Town on 2nd October 1971.

Here's a splendid profile of his life and career:

Micky was a real effective no nonsense defender and one of a number of tough cookies who played for us around that time , the likes of Halliwell , Carr , Ashworth , Worth and McLoughlin all spring to mind . Thought he played more times for us tbh . Rest in Peace Micky .
