Halifax v Oldham
« on: April 10, 2024, 10:07:08 AM »

Looks like it's off again tonight. They should be looking at neutral venues for their home games. They have three left at home,
Oldham
Barnet
Ebbsfleet

To be played in 11 days, plus Eastleigh away.

Can that pitch take 3 games in 10 days?

What a mess.

They called the game due to be played tonight off yesterday after failing to find alternative venues. Are they going to go to the league begging for special dispensation to play outstanding games after 20 April? Can't see how they can grant that and if they award points to the opposition for not being able to complete their programme, how are other clubs impacted by the points award going to react?
Like you say. It's as big a mess as the Shay pitch.

I expect they'll extend the season for everyone at Step 2 and below now, given the logistics - but how are they going to do that at Step 1 given the final is at Wembley?

Can't imagine you can just call up and amend your booking like you can for a hotel room!

I don't think they can extend the season due to the planned playoff dates, they could end up playing up to Thurs, Sat, Mon, Weds then Sat again at a pre-organised venue. Not ideal but down to pitch and to extend is not fair on other teams who can meet their fixtures. It was also Halifax who decided to share their pitch with a rugby team too. When we shared with Trafford Rugby a few years ago we had similar pitch problems and they don't really mix.

Even if they extend the season for everyone in essence it will only be for Halifax and Gateshead. 22 clubs are on course to complete their programme by 20 April as of now.
I don't see how the league can be expected to devise a solution which isn't going to upset some clubs.

I've commented on this on the FB page but you if you share with an RL club, a sport which can be played on a surface which would be classified as waterlogged for footballing purposes, you're asking for trouble. It's not a matter who your landlord is, if you want to be taken seriously as a professionally run football club you make provision. There's no way the NL will or should allow special dispensation. If you can't stage the fixture you forfeit the points, a basic rule from Sunday League to Premier League.

In their defence it's absolutely not their decision to make, as they don't own the ground - it's the council's, who don't give a crap about them.

That's not a defence, and it certainly isn't worthy of a professional entity with ambitions to be taken seriously as a potential member of the Football League. The RL Club have been tenants at The Shay since 1998, 10 years before AFC Halifax came into existence in 2008 following the demise of Halifax Town FC. The new phoenix club chose to become tenants with the RL club and this kind of issue was bound to arise sooner or later. As such they should've made forward provision, they clearly haven't. Too easy to 'blame the Council' - take some responsibility.

Why would the council stump up £750k+ of council tax payers money to two clubs who are not supported adequately by the population of the town. That sounds harsh, but economic realities are.

Next two matches (Sat/Tuesday) now to played at Accrington. Apparently Fylde are inspecting early as their pitch may not be fit to host Gateshead this weekend. All good for us hopefully.

They deserve nil points for that alone!

Are we running a coach to Accy to support whoever they're playing?
