1961-2 and 1962-3.
Two or three years before my time I'm afraid.

Think he still lives in Bolton. I was Alty’s mascot when Tommy Banks was at the club. He had a cap for England. He was a no nonsense full back. Who was famous for saying to wingers. “if thou tries to get past you’ll get gravel rash” ie they will end up on the perimeter of the pitch that usually had a cinders type surface. I also was in the army with his nephew. He was also a hard fella.

Great story Ray....just seen him on Wikopedia. Seems he played all the World Cup Games in 1958 and says he only got in the team as a result of the Munich aircrash and the tragic death of Roger Bryne.

Me and a friend were chatting about who we thought the oldest living England footballer was after Sir Bobby died and I looked it up at the time. The player in question died this week and somehow the name of Tommy Banks popped up in my junk feed
