Boreham Wood Match Thread
« on: August 16, 2023, 12:25:53 PM »

Going early.

Felt like we missed out on 3 points last night by starting out so defensive with three CB's and three CM's in the 11.

In the first half we looked all over the place at times and invited pressure from an average York side.

I think Managers can over think tactics. Even with the taller players we didn't defend well.

We have quality attacking players, so let teams think about us.

Back to our current best 11 and formation.

                                Ross

Banks       J.Jones        Baines      E.Jones

                      Osborne    Marriott

Amaluzor              CCC              Kossy

                             Linney

Hopefully get Donawa back soon.

One of the first to criticise Osborne but he was excellent last night. He was positive, with forward passing and wanting the ball.

My starting 11 no doubt.

We know they will give us an aerial bombardment so we should be well prepared for it.

They will, but be positive and keep the ball, on the ground, at their end and get in front.

It seemed last night that we had so many tall players on the pitch that at times those players didn't know who should be winning the ball.

Like too many cooks in the kitchen.

This is very obviously the best starting XI for me at the moment.

They have a long throw expert too so there’s an argument for leaving the temporary warm up goals and any pitch covers we have in the attacking thirds off the pitch to nullify his run up space

Our next two games will be difficult I would be happy to come away with a point from each of these games.

This would be a madness. Baines is our best defender imo.

Roscoe may well be better but he's off the pace right now. 15/20 mins once we have the game settled is all I can give him in our best line up. Especially against Boreham wood.

We had a really effective cross ball field long ball going on yesterday at times. I doubt we see that Saturday.

Wouldn't be dropping Baines for Roscoe.
They lost at home last night and have a day less to rest.
Just let's keep it on the floor and get at them.

Roscoe does need game time at some point but this is not the game to do it. We need to stick with our best eleven. If we do that we've got a reasonable chance of getting something out of the game.
Also, no subs until we're two up! 😉

I noticed this as well and I feel sure that it is something that they are working on as it was looking far too easy for them to get the range and distance correct and for the receiving Robin to bring the ball under control and move it on.  A good way to open up free space and time to move forward.

One thing I thought about Lewis Baines last season is that he was a fabulous defender, but not much of a footballer. Which is fine, sometimes that's what you need - leave it to the other lads.

From what I've seen so far this season he's improved massively with the ball at his feet - much like Toby did. Much happier to receive under pressure, still very one-footed but it is what it is.

He'd be one of the first names on my teamsheet.
