Live from the Netherlands…
« on: July 20, 2023, 11:20:31 PM »

Anyone know if the match will be streamed on Saturday? On paper, we have a very tough opponent and I feel we should be starting our best 11…

                          Trialist

Trialist.        J.Jones.      Baines.   E.Jones

           Jo.Jones.               Marriott

  Donawa.             CCC.            Amaluzor

                          Linney

2-2 Draw prediction

We could be back to the three at the back on Saturday I reckon.

Being pedantic, the two Justins would be the other way round.

Rather than have a traillist right back, you could have Donawa there and Kossy on the left.

Has Roscoe performed inadequately enough to determine he's behind the others in the pecking order?

With just 3 games to go, it being a team bonding trip, and the cost of travel, I can't imagine we'll see a trialist start - but any travelling must seriously be in Parkinsons plans for the season.

I disagree. Parky and a few others mentioned that having trips like this one to the Netherlands can attract a better calibre of player. I’m pretty sure if you were a half decent keeper that we were interested in and we offered you the trip to trial with us, this would be a perfect opportunity to bring a good prospect in.

The problem is I don't think Parky wants to bring in another keeper, let alone rock the boat on the team building trip. Most likely, we scramble for a keeper 5 games in.

I'd think any trialists on this trip will be either in contract talks or about to begin them.

Would like to see :-

                               Byrne

Donowa       J.Jones    Baines       E.Jones

           Jo.Jones               Marriott

  Amaluzor             CCC               Kossy

                             Linney

Think a right side of Donowa, overlapping Amaluzor would be mega. Would create so much chaos for the opposition.

I agree - and to be honest I'm more relaxed about playing three at the back this season if it means that would happen (and obviously Eddy on the other side too).

Am I right in saying Roscoe is also a leftie? If so, it might be worth playing Lewis Baines in the middle position of a three given he's the most solid at actually defending.

Yes. Agree entirely with that team from what I have seen but would dearly love to see a keeper drafted in to keep competition fierce.

I can only hope one of the NEC Nijmegen is instructed to mark our player Jones. He will be looking for a Mark Jones, only to find there's three of them, and none of them called Mark!

If Nijmegen played their first team than around a four goal loss is what I expected. I would imagine they are a mid table championship outfit or there abouts

A bit of research bears out that they fielded many of the players who featured in their mid-table Eredivisie campaign last season (though notably they fielded a young keeper).

Listening on RR, we seemed to be second best, but Nijmegen would probably finish in mid-table in the Championship, so we certainly weren't disgraced.

NEC fans describing our defensive 3 as Giants on their forum is funny to read from the tallest nation in the world.

In our league, we will need them, always thought our team looked smaller compared to other teams. Feel we have strength in depth now also.
