Whose for the drop?
« on: June 27, 2023, 04:22:08 PM »

Having been named in the bottom 4 according to the bookies, who do we think is actually for the drop?
Solihull look a bit of a mess and I think Rochdale may well struggle.  Dorking and then Oxford for me

I think Oxford might struggle. Plus, Maidenhead have been defying gravity for a few years now. Has their time run out?
Wealdstone another likely one?
Also, Aldershot seem to be going along with their new (ish) manager recruiting his son, and others, from his old club King's Lynn. Surely a poor choice?
You would have to back us, with our new signings, to finish above all of those (and a few others!).

Almost a quarter of the teams in the League mentioned in just two posts. And I'll add Southend. So that's a third of the clubs.

There's a lack of quality in the lower reaches of this league. If our recruitment is as good as it looks, we should be competing for a playoff spot, but I still think we need a more experienced goalkeeper.

York and Solihull could struggle maybe even Halifax. At least one of Dorking Maidenhead or Wealdstone.

There are obviously so many factors to consider (some as yet unknown) but touch wood looking at that lot I'd put us safely in mid table to be absolutely honest.

Maidstone went last year mate! 😉
Think you must mean Maidenhead?

Anyone could go up or down; with the exception of a few in each category.

It's as open at either end as its ever been.

Gun to my head:

Down: York, Dorking, Maidstone and Aldershot
Relegation battle: Halifax, Oxford, Solihull

Playoffs: Boreham Wood, Barnet, Gateshead, Chesterfield and 2 others
Up: Woking

It wouldn't surprise me to see either Rochdale or Hartlepool in the relegation mix.

Hartlepool won’t be, Askey really knows the division & what it takes. Rochdale on the other hand…

Rochdale will be fine (unfortunately) and will probably finish midtable much as Oldham did last year getting better as the season progresses and they get their act together.

Met a couple of Hartlepool fans in work the other day; they were not confident with their manager having, apparently, brought quite a few players down with him from Scotland.

Wasn't his last job at York?

That's what I thought. Maybe he just has contacts or links.
Either way, I was surprised about their pessimism.
