Went to Warrington vs Matlock tonight in the NPL play-off semi. Good to see ex Alty players Tony Thompson, Andy White, Tom Hannigan, Sean Williams and Josh Amis and it was a very comfortable 4-1 win. John Johnston was totally anonymous for Matlock and got subbed at half time.

Over 1800 there, no segregation but the stewarding was very low key. Actual police presence outside the ground at full time but all very friendly.

That sounded like a great non league game. 1800 and no segregation, just the way it should be. I miss that.

Shaun Densmore was cheering them on too.

I'm always impressed at how quickly they get the playoffs moving at that level - I didn't even realise they'd got to that stage yet. If I remember correctly, we moved for Parky the moment Nantwich were eliminated that year.

Good luck also to our old adversaries Runcorn, who are through to the final of the West Division playoffs at Step 4 with an impressive away win at Leek. Another tough away trip for them up to Workington.

I've heard we made our move before they were eliminated, as the rumour goes, he missed their semi-final with Spennymoor on the 26th to attend the interview (Sorvs took charge of the game) and was announced by Alty on the 28th. Either that or it's a big coincidence given the timing of our announcement! The rest is history.

Unlucky for Runcorn, who fell to Workington after extra time and thus missed out on promotion to the NPL.

Anyone going over to Warrington on Monday?

Congrats to the Yellows - they've been pushing the top end of that table for a few years now, well deserved.

Their crowds seem to be well up on what they used to be, given they're a Rugby League town.

Will be an intriguing season next year in the NLN.

Andy White had a good game as did Tony Thompson. Hannigan did OK but ,for me, was not at his best.  Sean Williams came on as sub and did well when given the chance.  Josh Amis got himself sent off but then they went on to get a 90th minute winner with 10 men.  Finally... they also had a man sent off at the death for a purely agricultural tackle.  Eventful game and very enjoyable.
