Dale down unless they win at County!
« on: April 18, 2023, 10:56:24 PM »

I urge you all not to go to the Edgeley Park game on Saturday (assuming it's not sold out already). There will be plenty of time to let it sink in during two National League games next season, should Dale fail to win there, and to get several other results in their favour. Should the worst happen, I hope their stay in the National League "Premier" is a short one. And I would add that step two is far better today than when we got relegated in 1997 and thought we were garden gnomes at Bamber Bridge, or got the highest crowds in that league in 1999 with average gates of around 800. I look forward to welcoming Dale to the JD next season. Should the worst happen...

I enjoyed my trips to Bamber Bridge. The pies were, I remember, especially nice (as was the beer in their club).
Also, at the time, I lived not far down the A6 in Westhoughton so it was quite local for me.

I enjoyed the Lancashire hotpot at Flixton, the only place I remember seeing it (and Jimmy being mistaken for a player there one time!). A sad loss to football.

We always enjoyed a ground with an adjacent railway track. Bamber Bridge, Lancaster and Burscough come to mind. There may well have been others.

(the late) Holly Park? 👍

PS. Saw a Manchester League game at Newton Heath Loco in the 60s! I'd forgotten about that!

Was still living at home in Harpurhey at the time so only a short walk over to Oldham Road. 😊

Born and bred there. It used to be a nice area with lots of friendly people. Not so much nowadays, sadly.

Wagged school(Moston Brook)a few times to have a kick about there . Did'nt our reserves play them in the Manchester League ?

In my early teens, I went to City when they were at home and chose a local match when they were away. One fine day towards the end of 1965, I chose an FA Cup cup match, Alty vs Scarborough and the rest, as they say, is history.
Went to the Rochdale game and the Wolves games in subsequent rounds and started coming to Moss Lane on a regular basis . Was still 15 (birthday is late August) the following season and was able to get a Junior Season Ticket for the princely sum of 2 guineas (£2.10) I've never looked back.

Crazy eh? Well you did ask! 🙄😂😂
