With the new proposals Kossy and Isaac Marriott could have been very badly affected

It's like they go out of their way to come up with the most unpopular policies imaginable.

I suppose it's to protect the clubs from a drain on earnings for no tangible return. I would have thought you could get insurance for the eventuality though.

One of the problems is that the PFA don’t represent NL players. It’s basically a professional league so it would make sense for PFAs remit to be extended.

It's like they go out of their way to come up with the most unpopular policies imaginable.

Apparently it’s in part to do with bringing non-PFA contracts in line with wider employment law. What clearly needs to happen instead is for the NL to be brought under the PFA umbrella.

2) How do the club feel about this
3) Our club has always behaved honourably with our injured players - is this being taken away from us, and the players?
4) Can clubs ignore the rule and carry on as before
5) Will the club be fined or punished if they do not comply
6) Sorry but I myself am totally against this - players have to pay mortgages and actually make a living
7) Most of the players in this league are full-time and dependant on their wages.

I suppose the big issue is the likelihood that a player will get a long term injury. It's a high risk occupation. In most lines of work health and safety legislation means you are unlikely to get a long term injury and if you do your employer is likely to be held responsible.

I used to work for a company that only had fifteen employees. One of my colleagues had a car accident that prevented them from working for 12 months. Paying her wages, national insurance and pension as well as a replacement temp did put the organisation under financial strain such that the company owner changed everyone's tems and conditions once she had made a recovery. The owner admitted that paying someone's wages seemed like the right thing to do when the company was making a decent profit but was more difficult to justify when the hard times arrived.

I suppose if this is going to go ahead players will have to think about personal insurance.

Perhaps I'm being sceptical in this political age - however it wouldn't surprise me to hear someone high up in - or certainly well connected to - the FA having a vested interest in the Insurance sector.

It isn't mandatory. I would imagine that any club who didn't continue to treat their injured players with the respect they deserve would soon be identified by players across the sector, and it could therefore become a problem when recruiting.

Vested interest is the new philanthropic strategy. You should feel good about yourself by looking after yourself. if you read between the lines of some political dogmas they make self interest and to hell with everyone else sound almost commendable.
