Isn't that Mickey Moore?
I remember him as a number 8 midfielder. Is my memory playing tricks again?

Just Wikipedia'd him and he did score 30 in 68 games so I could be wrong!

Good player . Definitely a striker , like the old inside forward type , Roger Hunt for instance . That's a real good goals return in a not so good team , Les Rigby era i think , nuff said !

Pele in action against a one-time Alty striker when New York Cosmos played Dallas Tornado in the NASL in 1975:

I used to work with his brother, Gordon Moore, for many years.
Gordon was a big Bolton Wanderers fan and it was on a works night out when he learned I followed Altrincham. He asked me if I 'knew' his brother. I did not and in conversation with Brian Flynn, I was made aware of the Pele connection. To my amazement Gordon knew nothing abour the Pele connection either.
In a very sad turn of events, Gordon passed away after a short illness within 12 months of retiring at 60.

Mick Moore was certainly a forward - wore number 9 usually

Scored 4 at Worksop in our 7-1 win there but missed a penalty at Rotherham in the FA Trophy Semi-Final 1st Replay which would have taken us to Wembley

We swapped him for John Rogers with Wigan Athletic

Mickey Moore - unfortunately to be found in the rather large 'forward who came with a great reputation, never quite did it at Alty' file.

I never forgave Mickey Moore for that missed penalty in the Trophy replay against Scarborough.

Why was it played at Rotherham though? And didn't we first make our acquaintance with Barnsley fans there too? Here's hoping for another Trophy run anyway, it's been too long.

It was a second replay, so Millmoor was a neutral ground. It ended in a draw, and we lost the third replay at Belle Vue, Doncaster.

Phil,

It was a first replay, not a second.

Three FAT semi-final replays! And I thought we had it bad for the number of games we had to play in 1990-91! For all the flaws of penalty shootouts, at least they get a tie finished!

As a teenage Alty fan back then it was rather helpful that both Doncaster and Rotherham fans sided with Alty and protected our outnumbered group from the Scarborough contingent. There was a lot of trouble during that protracted encounter.

Mea culpa Barry. Of course it wasn't home and away legs back then.

Of course for those of us of a certain age Alvechurch v Oxford City went to five replays in the FA Cup before getting a result. No penalties back then.
