Was this the biggest league crowd Alty have played in front of today? And what is the biggest one apart from Wrexham? I suspect the Colchester game, at least in modern times. And it's hard to believe there would have been much more in the Cheshire league - though I understand there used to be some stupidly big crowds in cup competitions, even the Cheshire cup!

I reckon Bristol Rovers away about 7/8 years ago or Stockport last Christmas would be up there in recent-ish times.

Just under 7,000 at Colchester , the largest that comes to mind was around 8,800 at home to Macc in the Cheshire League 1967/8 .

Sorry, you're right. 8,896 against County, which was their biggest league attendance of the season thus far at the time, and over twice the four thousand odd we got against them in the Conference North one season (also their biggest attendance at that stage).

I think that Colchester would have been the highest Conference crowd we'd have played in front of at the time (and possibly least friendly too!).

I suspect that there will be a rather big crowd if we play Macc in the CSC this season, especially if it is switched to the Moss Rose as has been suggested - though rather less than 8,000!

Think it was altrincham schoolboys vs Sunderland schoolboys in the 1920s. 10,200 and something I believe?

Remember being at the csc final vs 'strolling' Ken Barnes's Witton Albion. (late 60s) Wasn't that gate around 8000?

I heard about the Sunderland match, and I know about the Orient and Everton match (and what used to happen in the CSC - those were the days!). But what about for an actual league match? There was allegedly 4,501 at the Barnet game (3,000 officially for legal reasons?), 4,632 vs. Guiseley if you count playoffs, 3,900 vs county last season. What bigger league crowds have there been? I seem to remember a quote about crowds of 5,000 being "not unusual" in the CL glory days.

As far as i know it's that 8.7 or 8.8 v Macc in 67/68 . I also can't remember a league match crowd over 4,000 since then . ( 54 years ) !
