Marriot & Baines back for reserves
« on: October 29, 2022, 02:32:39 PM »

Great to hear that both Marriot and Baines are back in a reserve game today to build up their match fitness. 2 additions we need back in the fold. Top half here we come.

Good news, particularly
Marriott
My preferred CB pairing though remains Mullarkey and Cooper

I reckon Baines and Mullarkey would be the most solid.

Cooper's proper time will come, just like Toby's did.

Pleasantly surprised to hear  that Isaac is back, albeit for the reserves, I thought he would be out until the new year. Also Baines back training is also good news.

Currently watching Fax play Oldham on TV. I would expect us to get good results against Fax at Christmas/New year, on what I’m seeing here.

It would be good to get an update on how they came through today's game at some point.

An appearance off the bench for Isaac on Tuesday night would be incredible.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he went out on loan for a month soon. What a fillip it will be for our midfield when he is back to full fitness!

I think he's too good to go out on loan as his match time is guaranteed immediately as soon as he's fit.

He'll come off the bench a couple of times, and I sincerely hope the first time might be Tuesday - the ideal would be if the game is already put to bed, but football very rarely works that way.

I see he got a goal today.

Who is the best CB partnership according to NL stats?

Toby = Played 13 (27 goals conceded)
J.Jones = Played 12 (26 goals conceded)
Cooper = Played 12 (20 goals conceded)
Baines = Played 6 (8 goals conceded)

I think stats for goals conceded are grossly misleading for defenders. They could be nothing to do with their success or failure in the role they play. They're even misleading for keepers. Different opponents and different defences in front of them.

David James would agree with you about keepers - he mentioned how he would ponder if he should count a clean sheet where he hardly had a save to make. Lies, damned lies and statistics. Still, I tend to suspect that our improved record when Carmody played was significant.

Yeah, I wouldn't be loaning Marriott out.
Need his minutes in the first team, as we are currently carrying Osborne, who the game passes by weekly.
Baines and Toby will be the most solid without doubt. Improvement in both Cooper and Jones but not enough for me.
Can't risk both starting together whilst they gain match fitness so I would go Cooper and one of the other two until both are fitter.

Just seen that it was 7-1 yesterday for the reserves. I wonder how much of a test it was and how many minutes Marriot & Baines got under their belts?
