The Vanarama National League Preview 2022/23
« on: August 04, 2022, 07:11:20 PM »

I come in peace, Alty supporters. Somewhat inspired by the lack of Non-League previews/build up a few seasons back, I started doing my own season preview for the National League each year. It's a labour of love and it takes a good month or so to put together but I do it to hopefully shine a bit more light on this level.

https://leewilsonfootball.blogspot.com/2022/08/the-vanarama-national-league-202223.html

The big preview is up above. It may have the odd typo in but as people point them out to me, I shall amend them.

Finally, I'm sure you won't, but please don't be too offended by what I've written about your club. It's a bloody tough league to call this season and I've researched it until my eyes bleed and I'm still not much the wiser. There is some method in my madness but of course a lot of it is research + gut.

If you're on twitter, a RT to help spread it over the next few days will be great: https://twitter.com/leewilsonDRFC/status/1555107742788030464

Incredibly well researched (and scarily current given our key injury updates), well done.

No offence taken on your thoughts for us - in truth we're not really sure what to expect ourselves given such a huge turnover of players due to our transition.

We've lost key players from our solid run in last season but replaced them with solid signings on paper with the likes of Byrne, Barrows, Baines, Jones, Lundstram - with some younger prospects such as Brockbank and some exciting loanees in Conn-Clarke and Bennett.

One thing we do know is that Parkinson has improved our league position year on year - although this current season will provide his most stern test yet.

Bring it on!

Good article, let's hope Paarky doesn't leave mid-season.

Don't even think about it!

I think Parky believes he can get us in the play-offs or even better (I'm not saying it as it might jinx us!) in the next five years or so.
If he keeps improving us and the gates hold up (two big 'ifs') we're in for an exciting ride! 😉
Come on you Super Robins!

Parky the PE teacher made me smile. University Lecturer in Sports Science sounds better. 😂😂😂

I’m sure that during the coming season, some club will come calling to enquire about Parky & Sorvs.

The satchel swingers will be flashing up odds on whose going to get them both etc, and people will show signs of panic on this forum.

Personally I am of the opinion that the two of them will want to see out their tenure at Alty, especially considering the excellent work the both of them and others have put in to get the club in a full time set-up.

I’m really looking forward to this season.

Interesting to see leewilson has Chesterfield top of the pile come the end of the season.
That will be dependant on how many games Tshimanga plays. I’m not sure he will be ready for the start of the season.

I think the fact that us playing them later this month is no bad thing as he will obviously need a couple of games once he returns to start firing on all cylinders. Fit or not though, the bloke is a top striker.

Decent read Lee. Well researched and not far off what I’d guess at to be honest. Good to see you rate Lewis Baines.

Don’t worry about what’s written, can only be realistic rather than blowing sunshine.

I’m not fussed about clubs coming in for Parky. If they do it means the club is doing so well that he’s attracting attention. That’s a win win. I’d be more concerned if no one wanted him!

You misunderstand - he tipped them last season.

I can't see past Wrexham myself. Outdone by, frankly, one of the best sides this league has ever seen in Stockport. I see Solihull, Chesterfield and Notts County as the immediate dangers but I'd be amazed if they don't get it done this year.

Fancy, the three above plus Southend, Boreham Wood and Dagenham for the play-offs.

Gateshead, Wealdstone, York, and Barnet to drop.

Alty to finish 17th.

Mullin top scorer. Langstaff to run him very close.

Maidenhead will definitely go down this year imho.

Can't see York going down.

I think a lot of the southern clubs that were in freefall will stand most chance of occupying the places...

Aldershot / Maidenhead / Eastleigh / Wealdstone etc.

Oh, and Yeovil seem to be in crisis too.
