A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at Alty today.

The lads seemed a lot fitter having the bonus of training every day.
Back four were very good.

Young Ollie Byrne is looking like a great keeper

Midfield was good.

And up top we scored 2 goals well done Marcus keep it up fella.

When the subs came on they all put in a good shift.

A very pleasing outcome and I’m looking forward to the season starting next Saturday.

Onwards and Upwards

Cmon Alty.

How did Alex Samizadeh get on, assume he played half the 2nd half? Had a neighbours party today and could not go.

He put in a decent enough performance, but the standout trialist was the Albanian guy on the right wing, Egli Kaja. Has been with AFC Wimbledon, and had loan spells at Northampton and Livingston. Laid on both goals, but my reservation is that his stats show that he's not a goal scorer.

He was very good when he came on. Hope we keep him. He may not score many but he will sure set plenty up for others to knock them in

Lots of positives. All the subs looked decent. The 12 (Hussain?) and Samizadeh really caught the eye and made the difference.

Pugh is a massive no for me

Would be good to have some update on injuries more generally. Barrows has gone AWOL and no Lundstram in the squad.

I was told that Barrows will miss the first couple of games with a little knock

When you consider the players missing yesterday through injury etc. I really think that Phil & Sorvs have put together a really good squad of players for the coming campaign, and with the added bonus of being able to work with them on a full time basis is really encouraging.

I wasn't really a fan, myself. Did it have a happy ending?

Wholeheartedly agree.
However we do seem to have a larger squad than was envisaged don't we?
Will be interested to see what the final signed up squad looks like and I assume this will be announced sometime in the coming week leading up to the Maidstone game.

PS. It's a very difficult job for Parky and Sorvs as a number of players as yet not signed up look pretty useful.

Surely we have the power to offer 3-6 month contracts in situations like this, like we did with Kyle Ferguson.

Sounds like Kaja made a real impression. If we're 50/50 about any others (like Pugh / Gribbin) then they surely have to be a 'no' at this stage.

I think it's easier to offer a short contract until the end of the season as with Ferguson but I take your point and if it was possible I'd be tempted.
Agree with your second point. We've signed up plenty for those areas already too.

Pugh is a massive no for me

Having watched Pugh in the last two home pre-season friendlies, he does look rather like an accident waiting to happen to me.

A poor challenge and a yellow card in each game.
