Squad Numbers
« on: July 04, 2022, 05:41:20 PM »

As it's a bit quiet on here, I thought of something new we can speculate about...

We have an unusually high amount of vacancies between 1-11 owing to our transition - in fact, I think only 8 and 11 are left!

So who do we think are going to take the shirts?

Can we take the numbers they're wearing in social media pictures / videos as being accurate for this coming season?

I notice Jordan has 9 on, but Osborne seems to be wearing 10 rather than 8, etc...

Seemed to go unnoticed (at least to me anyway) but squad numbers as follows:

1. Ollie Byrne
3. Liam Brockbank
4. Isaac Marriott
5. Toby Mullarkey
6. Lewis Baines
7. Matty Kosylo
8. Josh Lundstram
9. Jordan Hulme
10. Elliott Osborne
11. Ryan Colclough
12. Amaar Hussain
14. Ryan Morton
15. Joe Cooney
17. Brad Jackson
18. Ben Pringle
19. Jayden Matthew
20. Aidan Roxburgh
21. Matt Gould
22. Ross Barrows
23. Jake Cooper
25. Harlan Rodgers Morris
30. Marcus Dinanga

So no number two?
Are 16 and 24 potentially loans spots?
Does the inclusion of the two youngsters with comparatively low numbers mean they're likely to be playing a bigger part in our plans than we have expected?
Also, Dinanga at 30. Is that a clue too?

Dinanga birthday is 30th, so perhaps that's his personal choice if Hulme takes 9.

The squad as it stands is simply not strong enough. No replacement for Mooney and very little strength in depth. Praying that there is another contracted player to come and a couple of loanees.

Cult hit the nail on the head on another thread when asking, given that three of our top four scorers have either moved on or are injured, where are the goals coming from this season?

I'd rather be glass half full than empty; when others move on, others step up to fill the void.

We scored a hat load of goals last season - despite not having an established number 9 for most of the season.

The full backs will be a strong attacking asset, our 4/8/10 make for a really solid midfield trio (who I probably expect to start now), and we have more time to drill tactics.

Osborne will chip in with more if he's further up the park (as will Pringle), and I suspect we'll have some additional signings / loanees to chip in too.

Keep the faith, we seem to go through this at around this point every pre-season.

If this sqaud starts the season, I think we're looking light
.
However, Joel Senior aside, most of our best recruitment has been in season so trying to remain positive. Its a long year and we're capable of bringing IN EFL loans now

I think/hope the loans may come after the BCD game at Stoke. Perhaps a couple of their young forwards/strikers?
Or am I reading too much into the venue switch?

I’m going to wait and see what happens for the first few games before passing judgment.
As we are now FT I’m sure this, in itself will produce more positive results.

Onwards & Upwards.

This.

If the squad numbers were anything to go by (and often they aren't), it seemed Parky was planning to go with:

                           Byrne
Barrows  Mullarkey  Baines/Cooper  Brockbank
                Lundstram    Marriott
        Kosylo        Osborne        Colclough
                           Hulme

That's certainly the nucleus of a solid first XI - but if Kozzy's injury has already told us anything, it's that we could lack the depth a bit.

Given Parky's reputation for improving players, I think one or two in the squad might really surprise us this season too.

I know his name has been around Facebook, but I felt that Alex Samizadeh could be worth a punt, has a bit of a chequered past. The number 18 against Trafford during the second half, I would love to see him against Stockport and United before Phil makes a decision. At lrast he is worth another look.

Seemed to score goals for fun at a team ultimately relegated from Step Three. Mind you, I think Dinanga was prolific at that level too.

Will be interesting to see where he ends up - clearly knows where the net is, just needs to right setup which I'm sure a club like ours could give him.

Are the six academy youngsters we've signed up going to be playing regularly with the reserves and/or going out on loan for the most part?
If so, we've only got about 16 or 17 in the squad. Plenty of room for two more to be confirmed and a loanee to fill in for Kosylo.
Or will they play a larger role possibly from the bench mainly?
What do people think?
