Oldham at Christmas?
« on: April 24, 2022, 08:59:39 AM »

With us likely to lose Stockport this season.  What are the chances of us playing Oldham as the Christmas and New Year fixtures following their relegation?

Really pleased we're getting Oldham when it looked like it could have been Barrow or Stevenage a couple of weeks ago.

I think we'll get Oldham unless Wrexham stay in the league, in which case Oldham might have to pair with Halifax. But a lot also depends on Gateshead coming the other way.

It probably all depends on who else is in this league next season. You've got Halifax or Wrexham who may yet get promoted out of here, but then you've also got Gateshead, Chorley, Fylde and York among others looking to come up. We might not be the best pairing for Oldham if they look at the whole map.

I can't see Halifax going up, but I can see Gateshead COMING up. If that's the case, they'll probably pair at Christmas with us welcoming Oldham.

Been to Boundary Park a few times. It's seemingly always cold, sitting for 90 mins on new years day. Brrrr.

And if you have Chorley or Fylde winning the play offs (which is perfectly feasible) then that throws things wide open. What if Wrexham blow the play offs? We might get them over Christmas if Halifax stay down too.   Too many permutations right now.

Doesn't he play for Harrogate now? 🤔

Hang on, I'll have a Luke 😉

I'd prefer Oldham in August whilst they're getting their act together

I wouldn't worry too much - they'll be lucky if they've got their act together by next.Easter.

My first ever Alty match was a 1967 home friendly v the Latics (0-1) .  Think next season will be our first ever competitive matches .

Actually, we were both in the Manchester League from 1900 to 1904. I don't know the scores but they finished above us in all but the first of those seasons. This must easily be the longest gap between competitive fixtures.
