Yep and as Moss Lane isn't exactly over loaded with cash machines the option of cashless is a great option to have if you have travelled to the area not from the town centre as many do.

I really wish people could thing outside of what they do; it's not a great leap forwards.

Cash handed from one person to another carries germs. It’s fine that some people can only use cash, but it’s on its way out, with good reason.

Cashless is safer. Plain fact.

My bottom line is that we should give people the choice of what they want to do so far as possible - which to be fair we are doing, so it's fine.
I heard that most bank notes have traces of drugs on them. And then there's train seats...

In any case, excessive sanitation also carries health risks; and there's issues with a cashless society. But that's another story..

Re pay on the gate vs advance tickets, I read on the Blyth Spartans site ahead of their cup tie with FCUM today that they are also encouraging advance tickets. They estimate in one minute they can scan in 16 people with advance tickets versus four paying with cash. That’s Bill’s point I guess when 500 people turn up at 245 vs Notts County next Saturday. I think increasingly it’s the future but I understand whose who still want pay on the gate but from an organisational and planning POV as we play these games against your Notts, Stockports, Wrexham’s etc then buying in advance makes the clubs job so much easier.

Exactly correct, we must cater for everyone.

A lot of mates I go with to games aren't full time Alty fans like those of us who post on here, so quite simply aren't organised or motivated enough to buy tickets in advance.

1 cash payment in 15 seconds average? Some people must be taking ages!

Speaking for myself, I'm just generally not organised or motivated. :)

I remember last season when I had to start my "journey" to the page for the online coverage earlier than I'd sometimes left to watch the match live!

I can confirm the Blyth numbers.  When we started the trial of e-tickets in the 2019-20 season, we found that we could get three times as many people through with e-tickets as we could cash payments.  Specifically around 5 a minute for cash and around 15 a minute for scanners.

Also if things get really tight we can open a gate and let people with e-tickets through en masse.

That's longer than I thought to be fair, and probably longer than I would take, but how long would it take me to buy a ticket and get entry without a smart phone (assuming this is possible)?

You can buy a ticket, it gets e-mailed to you and you then print it out.

It doesn't take too long, although probably more than 15 seconds to be fair!

Whilst I think Hugh is over thinking the problems of advance tickets you neurotic thoughts about cash are so far from reality its quite scary.

It’s plain fact 🤷🏻

I get that people aren’t going to be dropping dead from paying for a footy ticket with cash, but cash does, and always has carried germs.

When you have someone handling entry money received directly from several hundred people during a worldwide pandemic, it’s not as safe as not coming into contact with it. (I don’t need my degree in molecular biology to help me with that)

That said, cashless just isn’t an option for some people yet, and so the option of paying cash has to be there.

I can't believe I am writing this on a football forum . Germs exist on cash well I never . Next people will be telling me germs are air Bourne and are all around us and on our hands and faces .

We cant hold back the tide none of us can

It's like no one dies of anything else anymore . The air we breath it's self is contaminated. Should we stop breathing?

Beer glasses, door handles, pens and park benches....nothing is safe anymore. We all know cash can be dirty and that is why we were taught to keep fingers out of our mouths at school and to wash our hands...a school where we shared PE kit if you forgot yours on purpose to avoid an hours cross country when it was snowing and minus five....smile.

PS......can you still catch VD from a pub toilet seat

I would be prepared to use a contactless debit card for entry, something I have often done at the beer bar (now in the fan zone), and which I assume would allow faster entry similar to the ticketing system. I still think a cash option should be available if possible though. I know there are people who prefer to pay with cash as a matter of principle, for example. However, I rarely use a printer and don't have a smart phone, so it would mean quite a lot of hassle for me personally under the current ticketing system. Is the club considering a bank card payment option (on the turnstiles I mean)?

I'll use my own example here...

I turned up at the Dover game at 2:55pm (my bad), only to encounter a queue for the turnstyles stretching round Golf Road and getting on towards the Community Hall entrance.

So I got my phone out, went to the club website, bought my ticket (which immediately landed in my Gmail), flashed it to the steward on the big side gate and strolled straight in. Whole process took about 30 seconds.*

If you're on Android and/or use Google Chrome, you can auto-fill all your contact details which make the transaction a matter of seconds, I'd really start practising it if you can because it does make life so much easier.

* probably worth stressing to the club at this stage - whilst not wanting to be a grass on anyone in particular - that it was almost TOO easy - i.e. I flashed my phone for a millisecond, if people cotton on to this and the stewards are eager to get people in, people could start trying it on and flashing any old ticket. Maybe we actually need to start scanning them - or maybe we usually should be doing, and the steward had given up by that stage?
