If we are inclusive, ALL should be allowed to watch!

My Dad is 86, a season ticket holder & yet feels embarrassed having to ask for help to buy tickets, steam the game etc.

We all help him & agreed inline purchasing maybe the way to go, but please remember we're not all Bill Gates or under 40.

He's independent and just wants to rock up to a game & get his wallet out (was that a dream from the past).

Probably a sedan chair? Myself and Madam S prefer that more modern approach.

PS. Both of our chairmen have had both jabs! 😉

I normally send a pager message to my friend to buy me a ticket which I send to him via a cheque. He then contacts Chris senior who has a printer so he then sends the details of the order via carrier pigeon. I then have to wait in a phone box in Altrincham for a call to confirm we found Chris senior and it's printed . Chris then sends the ticket via 2nd class mail back to my friend who then in turns emails me the scanned ticket . I then go to Altrincham library and print it out . Very simple and works for me

A similar situation to mine. Glad you find it so convenient.

Your post seems to be met with all round approval, which is heartening to see. And just when I was thinking I'll have to get a smartphone or become completely disenfranchised.

I am sure most would agree that it is wrong that you should have to buy a smartphone just to attend a game. Perhaps the club could post out tickets, if we are continuing with the ticket system this year?

The club are always helpful and regularly process payments over the phone for those who can't access or use the internet. I doubt many other NL clubs still take cheque for season tickets. If tickets do remain online and to be bought in advance, I am sure that they will publish clear guidance to help anyone in need, as they always do.

Our fan base demographic is relatively old so I completely agree that the club need to as inclusive as possible and accommodate for everyone, but they have to be forward thinking and realistic.

The vast majority of fans have no problem with paying online and I think we're getting away from the fact it's been a most welcome improvement that accommodates for the wants of the majority. Buying my season ticket online couldn't have been easier. The last time I bought one pre-volunteering I had to go into the club office and pay for it in person. The club only ever took my name. This time around they've now got my address, DOB, email address... That's such valuable information for them to use proactively.

I guess I'm just encouraging people to embrace it for both their own benefit and the club's.

You can pay online and show your ticket on your phone, by printing it off or by using the physical one you're sent in the post. If you can't pay online then I'd imagine most clubs would process your payment over the phone and send it out to you. If you want to pay 'on the day' then you can visit a ticket office and take your ticket to your gate.

It's been the norm well before COVID at most forward thinking clubs so let's not carry on like this is a problematic byproduct of COVID. Given we're a National League club, paying cash on the gate is something we all should've been expecting to see far less, regardless of the pandemic.

It's very common at modern clubs and necessary to improve how you a) handle crowds b) gather more data on who is attending games and c) market future games to them if they opt-in.

I'd be content if we stopped taking cash on the turnstile altogether. We need as many people as possible ordering online in advance, for the reasons given. Our problem is we don't have a ticket office to sweep up last minute attendees, but being encouraged to pay in advance is hardly an affront on one's freedom is it?

how can you show a ticket on a phone? or do you mean fax machine?

The problem with 'online ticketing' is it's based on the assumption that everybody carries a smartphone and/or apps about their person at all times. Which, even among those who do so, is widely accepted as being crass and/or crap.
 Viva cash!

You can order on a laptop / PC and print them off?

Indeed. I am not an office, so why would I have a printer? For Alty v. Yeovil I had to send a copy of my online ticket to my son who then had to go into work (he was working from home) to print it off. Then get a bus to bring it.

A farce, but I didn't mind given the circus dances at the time. But please don't make it the new normal.

[Disclaimer : I have a season ticket and don't anticipate any problem going to match.]

That sounds like massive faff. Having done all of that, do you not just think it might be a bit more convenient to get a smartphone?

I hate smart phones. Even if I am eventually forced to get one, I have no plans to faff about every time I want to go to the match. I used to decide at about ten to three.

With us "free" from next Monday...did we have to get tickets at previous years' away friendlies?

(Strange how ppl go down the conspiracy route when I'm just asking a question!)

You've put free in inverted comments and you're comparing restrictions vs lack of games, like you're worried about a hidden meaning.

Enjoy a pint it's sunny.

I've never needed tickets at Ashton, Nantwich or Curzon before, or for that matter seen anything other than low numbers there.

With the "pingdemic" looking set to continue and some jobs set to be banned to millions of people who could have previously had them (among other things), it's not what some would call free. And it's looking a fair bet that next season will also be disrupted. Get real. This is no laughing matter, lad.

Nb, I basically paid on the gate at Nantwich last pre-season, I'm not bothering next season if I can't pay on the gate (and as I say, looks possible we could end up like last season for some games). Freedom my foot.

Sounds like the excuses not to pay to watch a side that might struggle are starting early.

Last summer Nantwich actually was going to be all online tickets, they luckily had some spare.

Given some clubs have had sticky fingers over the years, cashless entry where possible removes those issues.
defo don't want any sticky fingers issues . Also let's be honest dealing with cash costs time and money as well as the noted security risk of theft. Don't get me wrong im not for a cashless society but the truth is the less cash the club has to deal with saves us time and money of not having to secure it and bank it ... If there is even a nearby bank / cash collection

Then take card payments!
The beer shack (I can't remember its name after 16 months) takes card payments. How hard can it be?

Bore off with your terribly formed points of view. If you are capable of being outraged at the need to pre buy a ticket for a football match you really do need to give your head a wobble
Bit short on detail aren't you, idiot?

Wasn’t there a thread set up for this kind of stuff, and Qanon content?
Why do you idiots think this has nothing to do with Altrincham FC first team? And what on Earth is Qanon? twit.

QAnon is another weird conspiracy theory - try Googling it when you've got time to waste.

Fake News is an anagram of Weak Fans. Make of that what you will.
