Our 35th league game and the first time we’ve looked outclassed. Two goal defeat our biggest reverse before today. An achievement tbh. No Smith, Kosylo, Hardy, Hampson or direction today. Damage wouldn’t have been so severe with lesser opposition but Sutton were ruthless and uncompromising. The fourth goal and the Richman/TT corner fiasco confirmed the plot had been lost as well as the game. We will have to perform much better to beat Barnet next week who are far inferior to Sutton. Fortunately, there is plenty of room for improvement.

I fear that some of today’s squad are incapable of improvement. Williams is a squad player in the NLN let alone a NL starter. If the 4th goal today doesn’t give Gould a chance I don’t know what will. Piggott has scored the same amount as Byron Harrison.

We need to improve the squad in the summer otherwise we could face a relegation battle next season

I was including Smith, Kosylo, Hardy and Hampson (or at least some of them) returning to provide some of the improvement. Hybrid and full time additions will upgrade us a force. Level five football isn’t the place for part time teams anymore. It’s changed from being very difficult to survive to near impossible.

Unfortunately it will be in two seasons time in National North unless we sort things out for next season.

Got to agree with a lot of what I am reading, today was just a write off.

Good to see some positive comments about Ogle, I really rate him and hope he signs on for next season.

Well i usually wait til next day before commenting if we lose but today i cannot hold back... i must think before i write the following as want to go off on a Rafa style rant that could get me banned from the forum but i'll try to watch my language...

Firstly, luckily it appears, i did not see the game after the stream never worked... as a season tic holder and applying for game well in advance as usual i'm at a loss as to why the stream would not work for me... got following message everytime tried to load...

WE'RE SORRY, BUT SOMETHING WENT WRONG.

We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.

Now it appears this maybe a blessing after seeing some reviews, seeing scoreline, and listening to Radio Robins between trying stream...

Before i start, i must state that in Parky i still trust plus believe he knows what players we need in the summer (especially a decent no.9) to take us forward, plus he has been hampered by unprecidented injury levels...

HOWEVER, as i've stated before, i'm at a loss as to why Piggott still gets starts and we aint giving Bell a go... if we aint going to start him (especially after Piggott not found the net) why bother signing him on loan? Also, we miss Smith who is the heartbeat of the team, BUT as is clear to many fans Willo & Moult do not work as a combo back up... why not try Ringo with Moult if keeping same formation (or actually try a different formation)...

I personally wouldn't mind as much if trying new things like new formations or new players (as no relegation) but we're sticking with same formation & same players every week that aint working and still losing...

At start of season i would have just been happy with staying up... BUT after seeing our potential at various points of the season we should easily be mid table or even pushing towards playoffs (next season defo challenge for playoffs)...

Now the season seems to be dying off into a damp squib of defeat after defeat... sooner it ends the better, now...

Roll on next season... Parky has a BIG summer ahead to get in the right personnel to challenge for the playoffs next season and ultimately show that he is still the man for the job! COYR!

What is a number 9 anyway? Left wing, right wing, centre forward, attacking midfielder, even inside left I understand, but other terms I get a bit lost with.

And I'm sure people didn't used to keep on about "recycling" the ball so much. I'll warrant it's not mentioned once in that Liverpool match in 1980...

And on the subject of Sutton, where's he got to? Not mentioned on thee injury update, not playing today.

Really looking forward to today's match... hoping Smith somehow recovers ahead of schedule as we miss him as the heartbeat of our team... as i mentioned above, if he is unfit i'd prefer Richman to start alongside Moult, as don't think Willo & Smith combo has really worked... also would like to see Bell given a start upfront instead of Piggott...

Lets hope we can get something out of the game... COYR!

Williams was out for a long time, and Piggot wasn't playing much before he came her. With the season gone, I am quite happy to play players with an eye to next season - it could all seem worth it if we start well. I was never expecting much more than survival this season, and wd've got that comfortably.

The only positives were; Ogle did well, Smith back in the squad.
When I saw the team, my heart sank. The midfield too pedestrian and the 'attack' absolutely non-existent. Sutton obviously saw that too, for they were at us from the off. It was too much for our defence, which simply buckled under the strain.

They were a very very good side, but we made them look like Brazil. Some of our players looked exactly what they are - a combination of Evostik/Conference North. I really hope that Williams and Piggott in particular, are not on 2-year contracts - that would be disastrous, as they are good, hardworking lads but several levels below the level we are playing at.

Finally, I've never had a go at the management, but to take more than an hour to make a change when you know your team are getting battered, is either just crap judgement, or plain stubborn.

I say, old chap. I'm sorry, but I don't agree. Could easily be that it's about next season. Maybe he was poor yesterday, but if Piggot was not capable of better, would Wigan have persisted with him for so long? Would PP have brought him here? Of course there could be changes and rethinks in the summer - and maybe even that is part of it - giving players a chance to play for their place next season. For now, I am reserving judgment.

First off, I may as well share the results of my research.

Last season, it was 203 days for 36 league matches - still a big ask for a part time team playing against mainly full time sides. This season, we have played 36 league matches in 196 days. Especially with our injuries and hsving little to play for, thee was always a chance we would fade.

As for Sean Williams, he was out for ages. By my calculations, he has played 458 minutes of football since hs return. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it takes a new player something like ten games to bed into a team. We have new players since he was lasst playing, and having also been out so long I can only assume it is something similar. Of course it may or may not work out, but management will only find out by playing him.

As for the stream, I had problems too. Only 300 home fans as well, and they won't be buying a pie and pint, and probably not a programme the way things are. 300 in the GMVC is nothing. We must get fans back in the ground, however scared a few people may feel, otherwise we can forget about non-league football as we know it.

We are all entitled to our own opinions (u & i & all)... i was gutted yesterday (like lots of fans) and acknowledged in my piece we've had loads of injuries & would have taken staying up as main goal this 1st season back in the top flight... HOWEVER, as i also stated 'in Parky we Trust' (still) BUT he does have a BIG summer ahead of player recruitment to move us to the next level... roll on the next game... COYR!

I imagine nobody is as dejected today as Parky, Sorves and the players. I don’t feel inclined to stick the boot in at present until I’ve gathered my thoughts. There has to be a reason we came to yesterday’s place from some of the heady heights we’ve achieved earlier in the season and various reasons have been aired on this forum many of which hold some element of truth, credibility and astute observation. It’s the first real going over in 35 league games we’ve experienced where we didn’t look like we belonged. It’s not just injuries but the really influential players who were absent yesterday. Smith and Kosylo are ball carriers and not sure what happened to Hardy whose been right on his game recently. I still thing Connor Hampson gives us something extra although I though Ogle had a better game than most (which wasn’t too difficult). Finally, the opposition yesterday are favourites to win this league in my eyes so next Saturdays opponents may give us a chance to bounce back after a week of regrouping and licking our wounds. Nobody thought preseason that this league was going to be a doddle

I think Ogle has been one of the worst performers this year.

We will be in a relegation battle if he's our first choice full back next season

Definitely our worst performance of the season but credit to Sutton for an excellent & powerful display. They never gave us a chance to get going and our already fragile confidence never recovered from their early goal. They looked strong all over the pitch and set a marker of how much we need to improve if we are to realistically challenge in future. That said, we haven't suddenly become a bad team - missing our 2 most influential players in Smith and Kosylo is hurting us significantly and as others have said, the Moult/Williams partnership just doesn't work or at best it makes us ponderous and predictable.  One thing that frustrates me is our wingers always cut inside, often running into blind alleys - the occasional cross from the bye-line would give players like Piggot the opportunity to attack them in the air. Maybe that's a too old fashioned approach but what we're doing now isn't working.

Yesterday was as disappointing a performance & result as we've suffered this season but I had expected more hammerings this season. While it hurts we need to remember we've come a long way and competed on the whole against opposition that hold advantages over us. This club is making huge strides forward in so many areas and we shouldn't let games like yesterday deflate us too much, we will bounce back.

Yep, roll on next Sat (home to Barnet) when we should hopefully bounce back with a win (hopefully)...

NB Barnet are bottom of table (if discount Dover) with just 17pts from 31games & just 4 wins & minus 48 goal diff... though they did beat Aldershot yesterday... we should hopefully have a few players back from injury & Smith may well start... appreciate we were outclassed by Sutton (who are going for the title & prom) but if we did lose to bottom club Barnet i'd be really really gutted...

Roll on Sat, when fingers crossed we bounce back with a win.

Probably the worst performance of the season yesterday. Clearly we miss players like Smith and Kosylo and I’d even go as far to say the energy of a player like Richman wasn’t there either. Piggott isn’t doing the business yet but I think it’s fair to give him the end of this season to get him back to sharpness and see what he can do next year with a full preseason behind him too.

As for playoff pushes I think we probably all got carried away with that this year. The aim at the start of the season was to stay away from a relegation battle which we’ve done (or would have if it were in place) and I think now the focus has to be on hitting Phil’s target of 50 points. If we manage it (with the added hurdle of less matches than originally thought) I think we can all agree we’ve had a successful year back at national league level.

Lots to work on for next season of course but even with our poor form after February we’re still making good progress.
