Agree about the earlier point about Mark Simpson. Not the worst commentator, but think Brian Flynn is best being the main commentator and thought John Edwards did a good job as well
As for the game, think Chesterfield will count themselves unlucky to lose tonight, with the two TT saves in each half, didn't think it was a pen and the JH clearance against the bar. Overall didn't think there was a great deal between both teams. Thought we played some decent football at times, it was probably not a coincidence that it was the best weather so far for a home game, and interesting to see us continue to mix up our usual short passing game with long balls as well. Great to see us get the first home win and hopefully build on this at the weekend.

As people have said earlier, there was a bit of fortune involved in winning, although that has gone against us too in earlier matches, as this happens over the season, even if it does not necessarily even out. Tight margins, but tonight's result is probably bad news for the continuation of John Pemberton's tenure.

It's certainly good to score a few goals in what I thought was a really entertaining game, with good performances from Hampson (again), Kosylo and Thompson, and it's an achievement actually to score a penalty for us, so that can be Josh Hancock's new job.

I am steeling myself now, just about to look at the Chesterfield forum.

It's full of vitriol and they haven't got anything good to say about us.

They did pick up on Bryan announcing it as a National North fixture.

I missed that, although I did hear a very downbeat interview with John Pemberton, which reminded me of Jim Harvey in his time with us,

Obviously rode our luck, but considering the injury list and a starting line up with 3 loanees at match 9 an excellent result. As others have commented the manner of the winning goal was important, to prove to the players as much as anyone else, that we can play PP and NS's brand of football in this league. Just not all the time and against every team.

Anyway, just for the moment we're above Yeovil, Dagenham, Weymouth and Barnet with Macc not even in sight - just like (very) old times.

Great win tonight and we played well. Great to see Josh Hancock showing us what he is well capable of.

Playing with no crowd is a pain in the arse whenever the ball goes into the stands and players are scrambling about trying to retrieve the ball.

My solution to this is ..... Can the club not assign a dozen eager fans to be ball boys each game? This would see them being gainfully employed as ball boys whilst watching the game (sticking to the COVID Protocols, Masks sanitiser etc).

A different dozen personnel each game would at least get a few folk to see at least one game during these extraordinary times we presently live in.

Just a thought...

really good win tonight,i was watching dens he was making great runs pulling their player out of position, marshalling our defence. Very pleased for Josh.We were the better team in the first half, but they shaded the second,Thommo 1 world class save. The game felt very flat though, can we not have some chanting done over the loud speakers like they do in the top flight games, someone must know how to do it?

Over many years of radio robins Mark is one of my favourite commentators. Don’t forget these guys are volunteers and don’t deserve criticism for their efforts. There are one or two RR guys that aren’t great but they have never been openly criticised on here or the radio robins chat and rightly so. By all means compliment your favourite or a good performance but lay off the volunteers!

We're all very appreciative of the effort the volunteers go to - but at the same time I think constructive criticism is good - after all, they should want to know why some people like myself found the commentary so unbearable that I had to mute it v Solihull and Aldershot.

I can see how it's easy to overthink commentary and it's the (albeit well-intentioned) quips and banter that just sounds bit goofy and doesn't land well with me, it starts grating after a while - call me old-fashioned, but I just want my commentators to be knowledgeable (as Mark is of course) and say it how they see it.

Last night was much more listenable - although watching on my mobile it kept on kicking me out, which was infuriating. I gave up after half an hour and just followed Twitter.

I've got total respect for anyone who volunteers to stick their neck out and do the commentaries, on the whole they do an excellent job.

Bear in mind though that the Alty TV live stream is a far more commercial package which people are ultimately paying for, it's inevitable that feedback is going to be more forthcoming than with Radio Robins. If somebody is paying a tenner a time or even hundreds of pounds over the season they are entitled to say if something isn't right.

It's worth remembering that this has all come about in a relatively short space of time through extraordinary circumstances. I daresay it's still a work in progress, with lots of learns along the way.

I thought last night was the best stream we've had; as good as Wealdstone, which I felt set the standard of the overall package.

A lot of clubs media teams arent trained broadcasters and its a completely different skillset required.

Mark's commentary works for RR where the audience is no doubt pro-Alty and can't see what's going on. I agree the quips don't always land, but that's radio.

On TV, I much prefer Brian and John last night, Brian stopped the overhyping of players and John provided some great insight and knowledge.

Thought Alty TV was excellent last night, quality and commentary were great.

Chuffed we got a home win, against full time direct footballers. Everyone gave 100%, you could see everyone wanted it. Will give us a huge lift in morale for going forwards. Were work in progress, and that we saw last night. Considering how different the team is to what finished the playoffs, its very positive.

Thommo made some excellent saves, Hanks was much improved on previous showings and bagged a brace.

Was parky there last night?

Hanks back to his pomp last night. We played some good football in spells. Still work to do but a great and vital win. On to another tough assignment at boreham wood on Saturday
