What a magnificent montage of great Alty moments!

Superb stuff.

Marvellous to see the likes of the great Joe Pritchard, Gerry Casey and John Owens (with very long hair!) in those early photographs.

Would the very first photographs be from the FA Cup tie against Hartlepool at Moss Lane on 24th November 1973?
Ah.....the memories!

I found that Nostalga one quite sad really. Just take a look in the stands and look at the crowds. Take a look at the crowds these days.

I know we are comparing some memorable games but even so look at the crowds we get in the FA Cup these days, it is nothing like it used to be.

Do I sound like my Grandad?

I seem to recall that at that match there were some Hartlepool thugs walking round the ground causing bother, one being dressed as if he was an extra from "Clockwork Orange" until some old dear decided to take him on and attack him with here brolly, it was hilarious to see this yob beat a hasty retreat under a rain of blows from a woolies brolly.  :D

OK Here goes;-

1. Hartlepool 73-4 FACup 1st Rd - great shot of their keeper as Andy Windsor scores the second (and a very blurred young JTH underneath the Pendlebury's sign his tip top blue AFC tracksuit)

2. Blackburn 73-4 FA Cup 2nd Rd replay - ah the parkas, KO was 2pm midweek becuase of the 3 day week - Life On Mars eat your heart out

3. Gateshead United (prev known as South Shields) 74-5 FA Cup 2nd Rd

4. Everton 74-5 FA Cup 3rd Rd replay - opening shot of Cotes' backpass (ahem) going straight to Bob Latchford. Alty got more than Utd at Old Trafford a day after they had played Walsall!

5. Spurs 78-9 FA Cup 3rd Rd Replay - Maine Rd

6. Crewe 79-80 FA Cup 2nd Rd - Barry Whitbread makes it 2-0 - over 5,000 at Moss Lane

7. Orient 79-80 FA Cup 3rd Rd Home, Whitbread opens the scoring in front of 7,800 odd - Jeff Johnson gets his orders in the replay at Brisbane Road

8. SC**thorpe 80-1 FA Cup 2nd Rd Replay - Kingy puts them on the line for the cause, pen from JD giviing us a 1-0 win and a trip to:

9. Liverpool 80-1 FA Cup 3rd Rd and a great view of Heathcote sending Clemence the wrong way from the spot in fron of the Kop.

Hang my head in shame - I think its SC**thorpe 74-5 FA Cup 1st Rd Replay, not Gateshead Utd in the 2nd Rd

Brilliant stuff.
Thought it was the Crewe game in 79 - 80.
I still have the paper cuttings somewhere.
I'm one of the two kids sat on the ledge where the advertising hoarding should be.
Oh happy days.
Incredible to see that many people in ML.
Also recall a cup replay against Sheffield United where the ground was packed.

Chest swells with pride!

However, to correct JTH, I'm not sure Jeff was sent off at Brisbane Road: he was sent off at Moss Lane.

As a result of this, we played our CSC match at Macc on the Tuesday so that Jeff could serve his automatic one match ban.  Macc tannoy announcer "Altrincham have made 11 changes to the programme" Chorus of boos from crowd.  Alty drew 1-1, won replay 3-0 and survived a protest to the Cheshire FA from Macc for playing a weakened team on the grounds that we won, didn't we?

Jeff pulled us back in the game at Orient by scoring to make it 1-2 in the last 10 minutes after a disappointing Alty performance.  This reminded me strongly at the time of Jeff's 86 th minute goal at Doncaster in the trophy semi final second replay against Scarborough (RIP).

I remember telling every United and City fan I met after Orient that we had survived longer in the cup that season than they had: we were knocked out on Wednesday, whereas both United and City lost in replays on the Tuesday.  Orient went on to lose 2-3 at home to West Ham in the fourth round.
