Looking ahead ...
« on: June 05, 2018, 02:16:43 PM »

I notice that the League fixtures are currently scheduled to be published on July 4th. I presume the season proper will start on August 11th - does anyone have definite information on that? Any thoughts as to opening fixture - Hereford away would be the stuff of nightmares as far as I'm concerned so the pessimist in me thinks that's what we'll get landed with! By the by - does anyone know if we're going to be required to play the equivalent of the old NPL Champions v League Cup winners (Peter Swales Memorial Trophy was what I think it was called) as a pre-season game?

I was assuming that the league season started on 4th August with our last friendly match taking place on 28th July? Unless we're going to announce another friendly game at some point?

The Peter Swales Shield was discontinued a few years ago.

I was told told the national leagues start on the 4th Aug, a week ahead of the NPL who have clearly learned nothing from last years fixture chaos after the bad weather

The NPL have learned less than you think, Hamish, as they don't start until the 18th! I can only think that that they reckon that, as divisions are smaller next season, nothing could possibly go wrong.
Still, it's not our problem...

If so that will be the earliest we have ever started a competitive season.
