Another bloody postponement
« on: September 18, 2017, 10:42:23 PM »

I wouldn't have minded getting the game at Stafford on Saturday week postponed if it was US that were playing in the FA Cup.

As it is, we have a blank Saturday. We're already 3 games in hand on some clubs. It really is absolute bollocks.

Last Saturday , the league seemed to make every effort to reorganise fixtures so that those teams who had been knocked out of the Cup had a game, even bringing forward games scheduled for a Saturday later in the season.

It gets harder in later rounds as there are fewer clubs without games, and potential opponents have already been played, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us travelling to Stalybridge or somewhere.

Warrington and Rushall in replays tonight. I suspect they'll re-arrange after that and announce Wednesday or Thursday.

Available teams (I think):

Matlock
Sutton Coldfield
Stalybridge
Potentially: Warrington
Potentially: Rushall

A full week off night not be the worst thing to happen to freshen the squad up. Games have been thick and fast since the start of the season, with Saturday and Tuesday most, if not all, weeks. These are players who are part time and it must be taking its toll on .

Currently four of the next five are at home with this postponement. With a decent point haul from them, plus the winnable away game in the middle of those, it could put us in a decent position to push on.

Yes, we will need to get some of these postponed games rearranged and be behind on games played but hopefully we will have gelled and gained confidence (with a good home run) to roll this on for later in the season.

Matlock Town at home would be good, as it's scheduled for the last Saturday before Christmas, which is less disruptive to the fixture list than any of the others.

Stalybridge away is scheduled for Dec 16th. That's also the date for the Trophy 1st Round Proper (optimism talking ...) and it's pretty near Christmas (realism talking!) so it might be another candidate for bringing forward - though I assume both clubs have to agree to any switch rather than the League just imposing one. None of the others involve any clash of dates with the Trophy.
Looking ahead - Nantwich (h) on Oct 3rd is now of course dependent on a definite result in their Cup-tie; Stourbridge (h) on Oct 14th clashes with Cup 4th Qual so must be in a degree of doubt at this stage.

Although, if we draw with Clitheroe or Colne in the FA Trophy, any replay in Lancashire will take precedence over the Cheshire Senior Cup.
There does seem to be a lack of joined up thinking by the different parties in arranging county cup, league matches and potential Trophy replays for the same week.

There is a total lack of thinking at the Cheshire FA, joined up or otherwise.
