I simply cannot say what the score will be.  If the players play to their potential we will win.

I think the crowd will be 802 due to a few being away, 84 from Stafford and some red and blues.

Who knows, but possibly a 3-1win, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge Kyle Perry a consolation goal.

Attendance 838, with a good 100 or so from Stafford, and more watching the Sunday game at Stourbridge.

For a team that are the biggest in the league (by a country mile), betting favourites, and with a board vocal about targeting promotion, then playing a side that finished lower mid-table last season at home on the opening day is the perfect start.

It's no guarantee of success of course, but I'm sure it's the sort of start all at the club were hoping for when the fixtures were announced. It won't be terminal if we don't win, but with two much more difficult tests to come in the same week, anything less than a win at home to Stafford tomorrow would be an early setback.

But as Ecky says, play anywhere near our potential and it is a comfortable win. I can understand people's negativity, given what's gone before, but we should have enough to easily out score them and so a 3-1 or 4-1 win seems a good bet to me. Their '1' on the assumption that Deasy starts.

Yes Darren, just obviously watch out for peoples drives.

The club also have use of the car park behind what used to be Rileys.

There is a spooky parallel in our history.

Going back to 1963, Freddie Pye signed a new contract as our manager before the 1963-64 season and we kicked off at home to Stafford Rangers for his first competitive match in charge.  We won that game 7-3.  We also started in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup that year; we were drawn away to Earlestown who had knocked us out 2 years previously.  The match was switched to Moss Lane and we won 10-0 before going on to reach the First Round proper for the first time since 1933; drawing with Wrexham of Division 3 at Moss Lane.

Within 2 years we were the best non league team in the country, winning our first league title in 1965-6, beating Rochdale in the FA Cup and establishing the reputation that the succesful clubs of the 70's and 80's built on

Alty 4/6
Draw 11/4
Stafford 3/1

An Altrincham manager has not won his first competitive game in charge since 2002 when graham Heathcote took over from Bernard Taylor. That run includes

Ken McKenna
Lee Sinnott
Neil Tolson
Neil Young
The 3 lads as caretakers
Jim Harvey
Matt Doughty

Drinking during the game tomorrow will be odd. Entirely proportionate though for the level we now play at.

I am cautiously optimistic, expecting 3 points.
