Statement of intent from Stalybridge
« on: February 08, 2017, 11:44:09 AM »

Steve Burr appointed boss...

And the following statement made

"We have some very winnable games in the next six to eight matches. If we do go down, then we will be giving Steve the budget to get us back up at the first time of asking.

"We are not prepared to go backwards. We have some fabulous longer term plans that we are working on, but in the short term, we need to either remain in this league, or return immediately next season

Usual diatribe from any club, what makes you think they are any different to us?

We're going to present a strategic review and will probably bring in a new manager in the summer and say exactly the same thing.

To me it shows the same lack of ambition we have, all good and well making statements when you're right in the mire, but you should never have been there in the first place.

A prime example that's dropped in today with regards to what's being discussed on other threads. Do we as a club already in that league have a response to this?

Funny that,  because the chairman told my brother-in-law at Christmas, they are quite happy to go down.

Fabulous is the adjectival form of the noun "fable".

Or in other words a fairy tale.

Perhaps next season we should welcome them to Moss Lane by playing REM''s "Fables of the Reconstruction" over the PA.

When did I become such a bloody sceptic ?

Wonder if Bridge will go full time again.Could do with Blyth and Stourbridge out of the way also Hednesford could be strong having sold a player to Arsenal.

And the possibility of AFC Telford United, on the back of a £500,000 share issue, of which £160,000 has so far been placed.

Funny that,  because the chairman told my brother-in-law at Christmas, they are quite happy to go down.

Of course it is all dependent on context, but I would suggest that alone is enough reason to go.

I think the original quote is in reference to Stalybridge's chairman?

It would appear the initiative has come from Tameside council who own Bower Fold. They are offering to build them a new ground in the town centre.
