Good News..A New Director

From the Messenger site...

ALTRINCHAM have announced the arrival of a big name in football, although not one the fans might expect.
The club have appointed former Football League chief executive David Burns as the latest member of the Moss Lane board.

Burns, who was instrumental in securing the League's £95 million deal with BSkyB in 2002, has taken up an official role after acting as an advisor to the board for the past year.

The Hale resident brings with him considerable experience, having also helped to set up the Crown Prosecution Service in the early 1980s, and vice chairman Grahame Rowley said his appointment represented another step forward for the club.

"David originally came to us to give us advice on football matters," said Rowley. "But towards the end of last season, he was spending more and more time at the club.

"So we were only too happy to welcome him onto the board because his experience and contacts will be very helpful.

"We had needed to lighten the load on the existing board members for a while, which is why we expanded the board last year and why we have now welcomed David to the club.

"Myself, Geoff (Goodwin) and Andrew (Shaw) found that after five years running the club you get to a stage where you get very tired.

"The arrival of new faces is vital for the progression of the football club. Not only does it bring in new ideas but it gives the existing board members a burst of life as well.

"You know that you can hand something over to someone and it will be done, whereas in the past you felt like you had to do everything yourself.

"We can see a clear vision for the future now."

Personally, I thought he was great as the lead singer of Talking Heads....

This is fantastic! Most league clubs would kill to have someone with this experience as an officical within the club. It just goes to show how easily Alty impresses on people!

Ah, but can he play at left full back as well, though?

Why the sinister "he has history" That shows that the man has a very keen interest in football at all levels, you had me in a panic then.

Maybe if someone clever could cut and paste that article into a post on here, it would be good, Ive no idea how to do it

I've copied that from a supporters direct newsletter.  I bet there is at least 4 directives that make that illegal under 4 different sub sections of main section B.

You'll have to put it to a vote of the membership if thats the case, quoting mao zedongs humourous book of graffiti, bullet point 8, sub-directive 2.2

Goodness me. How did he gain access to the boardroom with views like that?

Great addition though. Let's hope he's got a few chums that love the idea of investing (for no financial return) in the club.
