Tamworth - Match Thread
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:35:58 PM »

Alty 7/2
Draw 10/3
Tamworth 8/13

Jim said he was only likely to make one change for the Blyth game. Wonder if that will apply still on Saturday. Tamworth arrive on the back of a fantastic runnof league results, but were T**tted 0-4 on Tuesday at home to farsley with walshaw gettting a hatrick, that after salvaging a replay at farsley with a late goal on Saturday.

I am hoping that the only change J.H. is contemplating for tomorrow is Deasy for Dawber - we could do with a keeper who is better on crosses, well as Dawber has shot-stopped in the last few games.

If we play for 95 minutes like we played at Alfreton for 85 minutes we have a chance of beating Tamworth. After a 5 match winning run (including beating Fylde & Darlington) Tamworth have gone 3 without a win, and they didn't field particularly weak teams against Farsley Celtic - they seem to have only rested a couple of players in each match. Even their last win was only 2-1 against 10-man Stalyvegas after being a goal down, so that was not a sign of great form either. For once we might be playing someone at the right time this season. Hope springs eternal!

Who do we think will take Obeng's placer on the bench, as the squad size declines rapidly? Seems likely to be L M-D unless Hobson is fit again (may be a bit early for that), or maybe Harry Cain?

Amongst many reasons why we desperately need a win against Tamworth is the fact that securing an overdue three-point haul would thereby avoid setting an unwanted new record.

During the 1992/93 GM Vauxhall Conference season, Alty failed to register their first home league victory of the season until as late as Saturday, 19th December 1992, when Welling United were defeated 2-0 courtesy of two goals from the late Charlie Bradshaw.

That constituted our 8th home league fixture of the season (however, Gerry Quinn's team had managed to win four FA Cup ties at Moss Lane by that point, including that celebrated 2-0 replay triumph over Chester City).

Saturday's fixture against Tamworth comprises our 10th attempt to win a home league game this season - and in a lower division, too (although we have contrived to record three home victories in the FA Cup).

Should we fail to overcome Tamworth tomorrow, we won't get another opportunity to win a home league game until Boxing Day.

I'm bemused that he's picked Goodall at centre back (unless he's playing Moult there which would be equally odd) when we have two centre backs on the bench.

I am equally confused by this!

Is it time for us to bin off Jim Harvey? No matter how many players and formations we cycle through he appears singularly incapable of organising the team and winning football matches. I'm not sure who else is out there but there must be a younger man down the pyramid who would fancy a crack it. Or is it just managed decline now for the remainder of this relegation season?

Club needs putting up for sale, this is terminal. Battled hardened 30+ year fans staying away in their droves. Only somthing radical will arrest this. It's a pantomime, and it pains me to say that. 12 points adrift of this sh*t league is unacceptable
