If travelling from Manchester, don't book a through ticket. Book Manchester-Sheffield (choice of East Midlands trains on the Liverpool-Norwich run & Trans-Pennine on the Airport-Cleethorpes route, with Northern stoppers via all points in the Hope Valley as a last resort) & Sheffield-Lincoln (which takes rather more than an hour), as it's cheaper that way. I'm booking off-peak returns to give maximum flexibility (it should be possible to catch the 1722 Sheffield train as the station's only about a mile walk from the ground, but the next isn't till 1825) but if you're prepared to commit to specific trains advance tickets could still be available at a lower price.
