Ive got a fundraising idea
« on: May 15, 2007, 01:51:34 PM »

Why dont the club hold a competition to win a squad place at Alty for next season, a bit along the lines of that thing they did for chelsea on TV?.Hold some "open trials" days at moss lane and charge those that wish to enter or think they're good enough to enter "a fee" for entering ( I think fc manchester did a simlar thing the other year). This could make some decent money for the club and even unearth some talent. Advertise it well at all local clubs/sports colleges and the like, who knows it could be a success.

Thoughts?

I think this works on various levels, because you not only make money but also you create good publicity for the club and possibly improve the playing squad as well.

I've pm'd you Hughesy!

I like it.

It would be hilarious too, like pop idol. We could generate good cash, publicity, unearth some talent. Most importantly we could have a dam good laugh at the trials when loads of overweight dreamers (like myself) turn up with glory in their eyes!

Get GH & DS to put them through their paces. Get a few 1st teamers involved at the later stages. Make a bit of a DVD of it with interviews with GH, DS, players and trial victims. I'll pre-order a copy now.

We could even test their nerve by making them do penalties with the infamous Thorley led 'Teasing Squad' shouting obscenities at them from the stands.

The words: crack, market, snide, deal and mum come to mind!

This one's got to be a winner, i know a few lads who play at various levels who'd love to give it a shot for a fair price!

Cult,

Its all about timing mate..all about timing

As for Pop Side Idol I believe that could be one of the UK's most watched TV shows.

David and Dennis on the judging panel...

We did put a similar idea to the club a few weeks ago, rather than being a first team squad number (wont have them next year  :( ) the idea was for the winner to play part of a first team friendly. I wonder if the two ideas could be combined?

Its been done in various guises at a number of clubs, AFC Wimbledon I believe allowed the winner on as a sub for the last 5 mins of the last home league game a couple of years back.........they were already league champions mind, couldn't be done in a game that mattered!

I understand every effort was made to get the bloke to score but it just was never going to happen!
