Barnsley of course also won the paint pot trophy vs Oxford so went to Wembley and won twice in one season but somehow got knocked out of the Cup by us.

In future years this will be a superb quiz question.

Why are people so happy for Barnsley? Don't forget they denied us a £12000 TV fee by not agreeing to put the match back 24 hours.

Instead, we only received a £6000 fee because of BBC World TV. ??? ???

So, I sincerely hope they go straight back down. They treated us with contempt.

They did what they were entitled to do. An extra £6k would have been nice but its not worth being so spiteful about. There were plenty of positives for us from that match and they were gracious in defeat.

I wonder whether our Chairman has forgiven Barnsley yet though....?!

Here's a club statement from last October:

FA CUP MATCH: CLUB STATEMENT

"Altrincham FC were notified today by the FA at 1.45pm that our Emirates FA Cup game vs Barnsley had been chosen to be one of eight games moved to Sunday November 8th with a 2pm kick off for live single camera footage with an FA compensation fee of £12,500 payable to the club.

By 3.30pm we were notified by the FA that Barnsley FC would not agree to this move and therefore the game would remain on Saturday 7th Novemember.

Representations were made to Barnsley FC by both our secretary, Derek Wilshaw, and myself but to no avail. They wished to stick to their Saturday /Tuesday game schedule and were averse to moving another fixture.

The FA have power to force clubs who are involved in a live game to play at a specified time and date. However, they are not happy to impose such sanctions when it involves a live single-camera game.

Therefore, unfortunately, we yet again lose out on an opportunity to parade our talents live in the FA Cup".

Grahame Rowley, Chairman. "
