Bit harsh to have a go at Tolson. He did what he could with a clearly demoralised squad that had resigned itself to relegation and even said he couldn't promise anything when he took the job. I do believe that Lee would have done just enough to keep our heads above water but we will never know now. Anyway all we are doing is delaying the inevitable, a win at home to Welling would be moderately annoying actually as I'd feel obliged to get down to Braintree to support the lads where I'd be extremely surprised to see us get a result.

We can't cancel the end of season do as its a vital fundraiser and we will need the money to try and get out of what's shaping up to be the strongest conference north line up since its inception. That said in current mood id rather we all paid a tenner in to match what's taken st one of these events and say here's Deaseys player of the season award, here's moults goals of the season and award and then sit down and sort this mess out rather than piss around horse racing. I really hope someone has been sounded out for the managers job, and is working behind the scenes already otherwise we are going to be playing catch up again like last time we went down.

It was obviously bleak yesterday, but probably the worst two elements were:

1) Lack of fight - people have been saying it for ages (possibly since Sinnott's first season) but we had no grit or fight, especially after going a goal down. It's understandable because confidence must be shot, but it was so predictable (as we all said on commentary) what would happen from about the 50th minute. We had a reasonable start and then Eastleigh turned the screw. Nothing to be too annoyed about in and of itself, losing at Eastleigh, but it was a horrible feeling watching the same old things play out for the umpteenth time.

2) As a couple of you have said, the atmosphere between players was pretty bad in the second half. Again, nothing inherently wrong with Rankine being aggressive when someone has made a mistake, but only if it is productive, and yesterday it clearly wasn't. Ginnelly had a right go at Havern after the second goal went in.

Overall, it was just so stagnant. Lawrie and Moult doing a 90 minute shift in centre mid against Reason, Coulson, Drury and Strevens was always going to end badly.

But hadn't Tolson been the assistant manager of this "clearly demoralised squad that had resigned itself to relegation"?

To my mind, the responsibility for our current wretched predicament rests equally with both Sinnott & Tolson for their mismanagement of this season.

Hence the reason that the path of continuity chosen by our chairman was entirely the wrong route to take when Sinnott departed.

I have a feeling that Neil Tolson was appointed because of his community hall links. It was a lazy and ultimately wrong decision and we have paid the price. I like Tolson, think he is a good guy, but looking at his record at Hyde United and his open admission that he is a coach not a manager means that I wouldn't have appointed him in a million years. The footballing decisions made by management and board this season have been ludicrous. From the summer signings of O'Keefe , Griffith etc to the ridiculous decision made by the board with ten games left. My concern now is that we'll start next year with Tolson in charge because we've dropped down to the North. The board at alty do plenty right but I feel the eye has been taken off the main focus, which at every football club should be the football team. This impending relegation was so avoidable.

Starting next season in whatever league without a change in manager will see plenty of WAGS Dancing for joy because there's plenty seriously considering not bothering, and that's only in the small circle I socialise with..

Not sure of his exact role other than he seems to be involved running the community football for kids weeks that utilise the csh facility. Its other things like being down in the mornings on matchdays helping move pitch covers and the like that I think may have influenced the decision to keep him on at the club after Lee's departure. He's obviously a good egg , but this is altrincham fc and we need the best possible manager we can get.

Isn't this exactly how Graham Heathcote made himself secure from the sack by doing plenty of other jobs around the club? If Tolson doesn't have another job away from the club, which I believe to be the case, I can't imagine the Chairman will be prepared to put him on the dole.
