Macclesfield - Match Thread
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:05:29 AM »

Hoping Very much that it's not an after the Lord Mayors show type game tonight. The lads will be tired after their battle at the weekend. Good that we've got some options back but not looking good for Luca this evening, but fingers crossed.

No....Figgy must have meant to put him in where he has Clee. Don't reckon Nicky will be fit to start.

Team picks itself, but I fancy us to snatch another spirited 0-1 win. Rankine with the goal from the bench in front of 352 travelling Robins.

I would always play the 4-2-3-1, we need 3 central mids in most games in this league and I think we play well having wide players like Clee and Crowther supporting the lone striker.  Far to open 4-4-2, that's when teams walk through us. If Clee can play I'd give Lawrie a rest and have Crowther,  Clee and Reeves/Rankine as the three pronged attacking threat with the three centre mids as cover.

We all know that if James Lawrie has a series of quiet games he turns into Zidane at some point or another.

90+2 minutes would be a good time for him to do it!

I clearly wasn't paying close enough attention, but wasn't Lawrie pushed out wide v Barnsley to accommodate the inclusion of O'Keefe in the middle? Including O'Keefe at the moment is a necessity in terms of central midfield presence, but unfortunately it really is Lawrie that loses out - he's completely ineffective out wide and arguably Bowerman should be given a go out there instead.

We certainly need our 3 orthodox CMs (and accordingly, 2 wingers - especially given Crowther's form) over having Lawrie at No.10 - this was glaringly obvious in games like the Halifax one.

I agree but as long as Lawrie isn't the middle of the '3' (as per previous post) as then we've effectively only got 2 CMs on the pitch.
